200racing Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 i got a kit with a few of these for christmas. i have only used the supplied plastisol to this point. can i melt down commercial worms and use them in these molds? http://www.jannsnetcraft.com/soft-plastic-lure-molds/440221.aspx# Quote
200racing Posted March 6, 2014 Author Posted March 6, 2014 i bit the bullet and did it. it works. puts off a good bit more smell the virgin plastic. i made about a 6 craws out of about 10 trick worms any more and i would carry the microwave out side. Quote
frogflogger Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 yep just keep recycling them you'll get some colors no one has ever seen and some of them could be killer Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted March 7, 2014 Super User Posted March 7, 2014 You can do most but stay away from Gulp products. They don't work well when remelted. As you mix them you will finally wind up with brown. Quote

I am not sure if you are or not, but it is strongly recommended NOT to use the household microwave, that you use to cook food with, to cook plastic. I started out remelting commercial baits as well, but once I discovered how well virgin plastic pours in comparison, I have not since. I do remelt my salt free handpours though by adding them to a fresh batch of the same color. Quote
