Brian B Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 Im looking to get an Alumacraft 2072SC. Im not sure if I should get a 90 or 115 HP motor. Clearly, if you can go bigger you do. But Im looking to save a little money for a trolling motor/electronics as well as weight on the back end of the boat. What would the performance difference be between a 90 and a 115? Would 25 more horses make a huge difference? Quote
Super User Hi Salenity Posted March 5, 2014 Super User Posted March 5, 2014 Get the 115 now and everything else later. 3 Quote
cadman Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 Definitely get the 115 now and everything else later. You won't regret it. Quote
FishinCop646 Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 I would go with the 90...if it was the only option I had! The others have spoken my thoughts! Quote
Super User slonezp Posted March 5, 2014 Super User Posted March 5, 2014 The larger motor will have to work less to achieve the same results. You're probably looking at roughly 40 top end with the 90 and 50 top end with the 115 on an 1100lb hull 1 Quote
Maico1 Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 Do the 115 like others have said...you won't be sorry. Quote

Super User S Hovanec Posted March 5, 2014 Super User Posted March 5, 2014 Put the $$ where the motor is. Its gonna be hanging there for a long time, while electronics come and go. Quote
Super User WIGuide Posted March 5, 2014 Super User Posted March 5, 2014 Just like everyone else said, go with the 115, Quote
MacP Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 The larger motor will have to work less to achieve the same results. You're probably looking at roughly 40 top end with the 90 and 50 top end with the 115 on an 1100lb hull My SeaArk ZX180 weighs 950ish dry hull weight - with gear inside, nearly full tank of gas and my 2 Stroke 115, I get low 50s. Biggest thing though is the economical cruising speed. I can cruise at low to mid 30s and run all day on 7-8 gallons. I'd guess a 90 would use plenty more gas and go a little slower. Quote
