Tlaz Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 Hey guys, I have the following gear and was wondering what size rod I should buy. Here are the setups as they are now. 6'6" Vendetta M and a Shimano KVD 6:3:1 6'8" Skeet Reese M/F ( topwater & jerks ) with a Lews speed spool 7:1:1 I just bought a new SX and need a new rod. Was thinking I should pair it with either a 7" M/F Veritas or a 7' M/F JM Carbonlite. Should I consider a M/H/F in either of the above to complete my arsenal ( for now )? Would you change any of the pairings? Any other recommendations on rod brand in the 100.00-150.00 range? Just looking for ideas and any advice is appreciated. Thanks Tom Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted March 5, 2014 Super User Posted March 5, 2014 A 7' mh/f rod is probably one of the best all around rods to have. It's very versatile. I'm not going to go into options bc you're going to hear so many different opinions from people. Quote
Super User jbsoonerfan Posted March 5, 2014 Super User Posted March 5, 2014 I would definitely add a MH to your arsenal. I prefer a MH for almost all applications aside from some treble hook baits, then I will use a M. JMO 1 Quote
Banned-99884 Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 I would get a 7' MH/F Carbonlite best bang for your buck. 1 Quote
Southfork Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 Lots of good rods in that range, I'd definitely opt for one with a lifetime warranty though. Quote
Tony L. Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 Check out the spring fishing classic at BPS. I Just picked up the MH/F Veritas for around 80 bucks. It was in sale and actually cheaper than the carbonlite. This week they are doing rod trade ins, so if you have a cheap old one you are looking to get rid of, you could knock another 10-15 dollars off of that. Haven't used it yet, but it feels good in my hand. Seems like it is a bit stiffer than a few of the other medium heavy rods that I've tried, but it is really light and sensitive as far as I can tell. If you read other forums, people are absolutely raving about the *** Black. I have no doubt its an excellent choice too- it wasn't something that they carried at Bass Pro though, so I went in a different direction because I had a gift card to use. Quote
Super User MCS Posted March 5, 2014 Super User Posted March 5, 2014 I would get a 7' MH/F Carbonlite best bang for your buck. ^^^this. Carbonlite is great rod for the $ Quote
normmcclean Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Check the mart most of them have their falcon bucoos on sale for $100 down from $130. I have heard of some stores having them as low as $30 but I have only seen them for $79 as the lowest price at the 6 stores I checked. They are super lite rods and I am still on the hunt for a couple if they get down in my price range. Quote
jhoffman Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Too many Fast and XFast rods on the market. As popular as crankbaits, topwaters and jerkbaits are I just find it hard to believe how many offerings there are in the F/XF option and the lack of moderates. Id be buying a glass rod if I were you, Im in the market for two myself. 1 Quote
