Super User *Hootie Posted March 4, 2014 Super User Posted March 4, 2014 Any info these rigs. Anyone use these with any success? Hootie Quote
Super User eyedabassman Posted March 4, 2014 Super User Posted March 4, 2014 I have fished them and they catch fish and at times I like it more than a t-rig. But i am going to give up what i do to the jika rig. As my number two split ring I use a Norman's Speed Clip so now I can change out my weight's in just seconds! The speed clips were made to change out crankbaits fast but I did try them on the jika rig and it works so nice! Now if I want to fish it in skinny water and later want to go deep all I have to do is push on one end of the speed clip and put on a bigger weight on! That easy!!!! 1 Quote
Super User eyedabassman Posted March 4, 2014 Super User Posted March 4, 2014 It is great for punching, flippin, pitching, and i like to swim it very slow on the bottom! The bait has much more movement.Just put a Netbait baby Paca or a Paca and hang on!!! Quote
5dollarsplash Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 I think Felix77 uses this rig quite a bit. I've tried it and it works, but its in no way a go-to for me yet. Maybe this is the year? Quote

I need to see if I have any Norman Speed Clips left... Hootie, I just started using the Jika this past 6 months or so. Caught a number of bass, but plan to use it more this year. In some ways I like it better than the TX rig, although they're different enough in action. It has a place in my arsenal now. Quote

Bass Pro still sells the Speed Clips and I think they are like $2.99 and they have two size's! I think they come 25 to a pack. Quote

Super User rippin-lips Posted March 4, 2014 Super User Posted March 4, 2014 I used it a little last year with success. I mainly just pitched it. The majority were hit on the fall so I can't say if it's and better then a T rig with a pegged weight or not. I did catch fish though so I have a few made up in my box. Quote

You know, I decided to make my own via some pix online. Was pretty easy, and with the Norman Speed Clip idea, I'll only need one split ring and can swap out different weights for different depths/presentations. Quote
Super User Sam Posted March 5, 2014 Super User Posted March 5, 2014 JIKA rig. The one rig I plan to master this year. Made some myself and caught a bass on the first cast. Thanks to eyedabassman for his suggestion on the Norman Speed Clips. I will get some and give 'em a try. Quote
Will Wetline Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 I was excited about the additional freedom of movement the Jika rig provides when I first read about it. I made a few up even though working with split rings strains my patience. The rig does work although I didn't fish it enough to say that it's significantly better than a T-rig or a jig. This season I'm looking forward to throwing a "jointed" jig that will provide a bait with a good deal more action than one on a fixed hook. http://www.barlowstackle.com/Do-It-Football-Swing-Jig-Mold-P3026.aspx Several companies market articulated football jigs for the many bassmasters who don't like to play with molten metal. hoosierbass07 Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 I read about the Jika rig in In-Fisherman magazine a while ago. And I noticed one of the Walmarts had in some KVD Jika rig packs. It looked like it included four or five hooks and two weights. I thought it was sort of pricey though and have not purchased them yet. Can the Jika rig be used in open water? With the weight hooked right on the hook, doesn't that pull the lure/plastic straight more rather quick? Quote

Yes, it can be fished anywhere.I have fished it on humps, points, ect. anywhere you would fish a T-rig! Yes the T-rig will not fall the same as the Jika but that also depends on what weight you want to fish too! Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted March 5, 2014 Super User Posted March 5, 2014 I like jika rigs. I make my own. I find that I get bit more consistently on the jika rig than I do a T-rig. I started fishing them last summer, primarily on deep weed line edges and points the were 12 or more feet deep. Most of my home made rigs are around a half ounce weight, + or - a few grams. 1 Quote
Jay Ell Gee Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 Last season I employed the girlfriend's help (she is so much more patient with crafts than I) making about six of the jika rigs after watching Rick clunn use them on a bass pro shops show. I am primarily a river fisherman and these rigs worked extremely well. I threw them on a 6'10 St. Croix Legend Xtreme M/XF with a 50e Chronarch. I primarily used zoom UV speed craws, but I could see its effectiveness with small flukes, swimbaits, creatures, etc. very good action when used with a rod and reel combo that won't overpower it. Super User eyedabassman Posted March 5, 2014 Super User Posted March 5, 2014 I also make my own,it is alot cheaper and I can change things up a bit if i want.Just get a split ring pliers and go to town! Quote
hoosierbass07 Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 I just went to Walmart and bought those KVD Jika hooks. I only got two hooks with weights in a pack and they were almost five dollars! I will defiitly not be buying any more of those things. I hook them out of the pack when I got home and I'm shocked there are so many rings on that hook. lol. Quote
gripnrip Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 I make my own the the teardrop style gremlin weights. 5/0 superline hook and 2 split rings. I'll try the speed clip idea. It sounds great! JFracho uses this technique as well. Quote
