Super User MarkH024 Posted March 5, 2014 Super User Posted March 5, 2014 I've already heard of one smaller shallow lake around my area that has experienced winter kill. Winter can eat a you know what at this point in time. My home lake in WI is average 3.5-4 feet. Deepest is only 8 feet in a couple spots. I am willing to bet there will be a winter kill, it's just a question of how bad. Quote
mnbassman23 Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 Mark I'd say it's happening hopefully it doesn't hit to hard. Just read about another MN lake having winter kill. Seen a picture from last night were the fisherman drilled a hole as big as a spearing hole and the crappies were swimming up to the surface for air.. Never good. Quote
Super User MarkH024 Posted March 5, 2014 Super User Posted March 5, 2014 That's a bummer man. Hoping for the best for everyone. Some lakes will be crushed and others will be fine. Nothing we can do but let nature take its course. Quote
Chris186 Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 I have had some serious thoughts about moving south. I mean really serious thoughts. All last week I was scouting for jobs and places to live in Florida. Quote
Mainebass1984 Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Winter here in Vermont and in Maine have been real harsh. There was over 4 feet of snow in the woods in Maine as of last week. Snow on the lakes was deeper then my knees. It has been brutally cold all winter long. Tomorrow morning is supposed to be -20. I think maybe by july there will be open water. 1 Quote

pipes18079 Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 I can't wait would be an understatement ice fishing up here just hast had the appeal for me as in past winters. I finally decided with 3 other buddies that we couldn't wait any longer. We are leaving on the 16 th and driving down to lake Marion for 4 days then trekking back north. I can't wait I have never fished down there before should be interesting. Quote

coryn h. fishowl Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 fipping and pitching jig heads to catch socks...testing lures in my bathtub and the school fish-tank, blowing all my money, dreaming about fishing....I don't know what you all are talking about. Thanks to denial, the weather is perfect. I'm just doing these things because the voices of KVD, Iaconelli, and Mark Zona in my head are telling me to. o.O Quote
Super User Sam Posted March 6, 2014 Super User Posted March 6, 2014 I read your topic and threw up. Is that sick enough???????????????? Quote
reb67 Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Very Very sick of it delaying my fishing time causing me to go broke, I work outside watching these stupid weather reporters standing out in the freezing cold, snow, sleet and freezing rain to show us what it is doing outside. I don't about you guys but I have windows in my house. However I see the light at end of tunnel, day light saving starts Saturday/Sunday it at least look like spring Quote
Chance_Taker4 Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 living in NW Ohio we broke the record for most snowfall in a single winter 81". And yet we are due to another 2-4 fall tomorrow. The weather man is saying if we get our temps into the mid 20s by the first day of spring we will have something to celebrate. Today it is going to be 15 with a low of -4. This winter will never end for us up here. I am pulling my hair out since all my hobbies are summer hobbies (fishing, golfing, and paintball). 1 Quote
Bassintheweeds Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 So sick of winter that my room is clean. All my gear is completely organized (which for me is incredible). There are green streaks from braid in the snow from me casting frogs in the yard...At this rate I'm confident i will not be able to fish my first tournament of the year on 4/26. I need another trip to Florida... ( and paintball). HHH? Quote
bassguytom Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 I'm have been fishing through the ice here in the Philadelphia area so that has kept me busy. I'm sure my wife will be glad to get all of my tackle out of the living room but I have to say this should be my most organized year ever! Until I start fishing that is. Quote

SudburyBasser Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 I live up in northern Canada so you can imagine we get a good dose of winter. This year my friends have noted that I'm becoming increasingly hostile and ranting every time it snows or it's crazy cold...and they've been noting a lot this winter. I think they're about to hold an intervention with a plane ticket to El Salto. Quote

rmcguirk Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Very, very sick. Not too much snow, comparatively, but cold. No warm stretches at all. The ice has to be incredibly thick right now. Yet some winters, it's clearing by now. I fear I won't get the boat launched until after April 10 or so. Just saying it makes me feel sick to my stomach. Quote
fadetoblack21 Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 I'm so sick of winter that I went to my local lake and bounced lures off the ice casting. . . . . . . . . just for fun! 45 degrees is a heat wave right now! Couldn't resist myself. Quote

DelcoSol Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Just went to the lake for the first time since November. 10" of ice still.. looks like mid April if I am lucky Quote
AQUA VELVA Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 They say winter makes one appreciate summer. I say winter only makes me dislike winter that much more. Quote
