buzzfrog Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 anyone check them out, I know someone new bought them out, but last year I saw a man in a video talk about new carrots. It looked like they picked him up off the street and he didnt know anything. These rods are sexy on they eyes to me and I need another spinning; BUT wondered if anything was new about them in the breaking area. Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted March 4, 2014 Super User Posted March 4, 2014 I thought all those rods broke - they were popular a few years ago, but they were fragile. Rogers Lures in Liberty, MO stopped carrying them, mostly because of breakage issues. I have a black Carrot Stick Wild that I haven't broken yet, I think it is just a matter of time. A couple of years ago, a fishing buddy got 3 of them and broke them all in 1 season. Quote
Super User Tywithay Posted March 4, 2014 Super User Posted March 4, 2014 They were bought out by new owners and I believe they're using a different builder now. I would definitely wait until other people have used them before I spent my money on them. I personally think they're ugly as sin. The orange looks a lot better than the wild green though. Quote

I love the orange lol, thats what I wanted to know, diff builders, I think everyone is to scared to use them again. hell there website isnt even showing the wild orange rods are out yet, but TW has them ?? I had 2 e21 wild carrot stix casting rods. a 6'6" MH and a a 7'H. I used them lightly, but sold them off because i was always so delicate with them i was scared to fish them right. Especially the 7'H, i wanted to fish jigs with it, but was scared to death of a hard hook set..... i will say this, they feel great and light and they look good.... but for the money i think you can do far better. side note: my friend has an old spinning rod from i think the first generation and it has lasted him a few seasons and he fishes it every outing as his t-rig rod. take that for what it's worth. buzzfrog Posted March 4, 2014 Author Posted March 4, 2014 i have a 7'3 from the old series as well and it is a work horse. Quote
dolomieu Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 I’ve had one of the Carrot Stix Wild rods for several years. I’ve caught one bass over 6 lbs and a few over 5 on it. I’ve always thought it was a nice rod for the money and have thought a few times about trying another, but every time I look into them, I read nothing but hatred for the brand. I’m sure they did have breaking issues, but I’m also sure half the people talking about them are just regurgitating something they heard elsewhere. Maybe I just got lucky and got a good one, but I kind of have a soft spot for that (really) ugly orange rod. 1 Quote
Super User F14A-B Posted March 4, 2014 Super User Posted March 4, 2014 No.... The dislike for carrot stix was is justified.... Often new rod series come out and bingo.. Breakage issues... It happens... What killed E21 was they didn't care... You had to pay 40$ and send it to Canada..they were loosing people's rods... Not replacing the broke rods.... Not so good product for many. And horrific customer service = failed company brand They are now headquartered in Cali. Also different ownership... It's owned now by a country? ..... Quote
TrippyJai Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 If your rod doesn't break then you've got a rod working the way it should. If your rod snaps, good luck getting your replacement. I know they've had breakages issues and that is probably corrected by now, but people aren't giving them a second chance because they have poor at best customer service. They don't even have a website! It's 2014, even the smallest companies have a website. Quote
buzzfrog Posted March 4, 2014 Author Posted March 4, 2014 i saw there website this morning, though none of the new rods were listed, I will stay away, a bill isnt worth a purty rod Quote
BenB54 Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 I've owned a lot of carrot stix and have only broke one due to user error. The one I broke just happened to be one of the 1st gen wilds that I believe people were having the most issues with. I haven't had any problems with the micro guide series at all and most likely will be buying some of the new pro grade TI series when they are available in the casting models. Quote
OnthePotomac Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 I have used my orange Wild for cranks for two years no with no problems. Got it on sale at the time at Gander for $80. Quote
Super User Tywithay Posted March 5, 2014 Super User Posted March 5, 2014 http://carrotstix.com/products/ They have a website. They haven't added the wild orange rods, but they're pretty new. Quote
B@ssCrzy Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 I have used my orange Wild for cranks for two years no with no problems. Got it on sale at the time at Gander for $80. Bought my 7' MH at the same time for $80. Figured if it breaks no big deal. To be honest it has turned out to be the best rod I have in my arsenal. I try to stay around $100 for my rods and with that being the case the carrot stick is my favorite rod. I would not pay $150 for a new one if it did break with all the breakage problems that I have heard, but for $80 the price was right. Quote
Super User Montanaro Posted March 5, 2014 Super User Posted March 5, 2014 whats the appeal? They look good? does that justify the risk Quote
Chris186 Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 I have one of the original orange ones, and I can't even give that thing away. Quote
Jay Ell Gee Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 The first generation rods were pretty notorious for breaking, but the second gen saw a huge improvement. I have one that I flip with and I am not gentle with it. My buddy has five and has never had any issues. Hopefully they have resolved all issues Quote
deadadrift89 Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Anyway to tell what gen the rod is? Local shop has a closeout rack full of these. Quote
OnthePotomac Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 The appeal to me other than price is the 7' rod weight--3.5oz. That is light. Quote
IneedAnewScreenName-3252 Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 I have a few of various series and have never had any issues. They are my favorite rods to fish with, by a wide margin. Quote
Kyle46N Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 They have the microwave guides now. Pretty significant upgrade for a spinning rod. Quote
Big C Posted May 26, 2015 Posted May 26, 2015 These rods are awesome. I still have the first generation rods a medium/light casting, a medium/light spinning, and a heavy swimbait casting. There are not fragile at all. I set the hook like Matt Allen, use them on average 2-3 a week (usually more), and I use braid most of the time. They are so light if you do a side by side comparison a Duckett Ghost seems heavy. The sensitivity is crazy you can tell the difference between rocks and wood easily, you can feel everything on the bottom. And they are a pretty good deal $99 on Tackle Warehouse, really not bad.
