Taylor Peterson Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 Anyone use these rods? I'd rather buy this than the Premiers since the only difference is where they're built and the guides. I'd be getting a 6'6 medium-fast two piece for wacky worms and hard jerkbaits. What i mainly care about is sensitivity for the weightless worms... Thanks for any help Quote
Super User Darren. Posted March 4, 2014 Super User Posted March 4, 2014 I can speak for the Premier, it's a good rod. The Triumph is a fine rod, too, but that's based on me handling them in-store, not on the water. Doubt you'd really go wrong either way, though the Premier is a step up for worm techniques, IMO. Smallmouth Hunter Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 Triumph and premier use same blank. Quote
mjseverson24 Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 I love my triumphs, especially for the price, I would not get any more premiers because of the lack of performance increase for the 50 extra bucks... thats just me though, I know a lot of people really like their premiers... Mitch Quote

Mitch I agree, if I pay an extra 40-50$, I want a better blank. I'd rather step up to the rage to get the sc-3 blank. Unfortunately I don't have that kind of cash right now. Quote
Alpha Male Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 I have a 1-piece ML-fast 6'6" spinning rod for dropshot and walleye jigging. very nice rod quite sensitive. Quote
tnbassfisher Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 Big fan of the Triumphs. However, I would urge you to try and stay away from the two-piece. Quote
Taylor Peterson Posted March 4, 2014 Author Posted March 4, 2014 If I were to go with a one piece, Id probably go with the mojo or abu garcia veritas, but a two-piece would be much more convienent. I don't live on a lake, and don't have a bass boat. i fish from a kayak but sometimes from shore and with a two-piece, I can travel in a car. Quote
Super User Tywithay Posted March 4, 2014 Super User Posted March 4, 2014 Triumph and premier use same blank. Same material, blanks are different. That said, they're nice rods for the money. They're not overly light, sensitive, or balance....but they'll catch fish and last a long time. I have a few for my river wading rods when I don't want to risk some of my more expensive stuff. I've bought most of mine on clearance from Dicks, so they're a great deal at that price. At the $80ish retail, I wouldn't get as excited; would much rather wait for a 20% sale and buy an *** for the same price. Quote

Honestly IF you're going to get a 2-piece rod I would recommend getting something cheaper. I know you want something nice but I would not "middle of the road" this decision. If you want nice then get nice. If you're worried about portability then just get a 30-50$ 2-piece. I have a 20$ ugly stick and still use it to this day. Quote

I deffinetely think its time to step it up since broomsticks are more sensitive than those rods. i mad a post earlier sking if there was a serious dip in sensitivity in two piece rods and the majority of people said that the difference is barely noticeable. Unfortunately I don't have that kind of cash right now. You should hold out. A pretty solid alternative to buying new is to check out that internet auction site and purchase from a respected seller, or continue to check the flea market here. I have seen a lot of Rages and Avids go for ~$100. It sounds like you really want that higher-end blank. Quote

You can find some much better rods for the same money or less if you are willing to buy used. There are also other forums to check for used rods. Some you will find are still new with tags on them for close to half of retail. Just have to be patient. I once got a St Croix LTB for $80 shipped. Quote

For that price, I'd go to BPS during the rod trade in and get a Carbonlite or Veritas over a Triumph. (Veritas - 79.99 - 15 = 64.99, Carbonlite 99.99 - 15 = 84.99). If you don't have a rod to trade in, the sale price alone for the Veritas or Carbonlite is leaps and bounds better than that Triumph. Quote
Taylor Peterson Posted March 5, 2014 Author Posted March 5, 2014 Unfortunately there are no Bass Pros in Minnesota....What the heck Bass Pro!!!! closest one is in Iowa. What I do have is a Cabelas a half hour away and countless Dciks Sporting Goods, Gander Mountains. The veritas is on sale here too Quote
Paulasaurus Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 I recently picked up an *** Black from the Gander in Blaine for $80. They also had the Veritas for $79.99 in their last flyer. Give them a call and see what prices they currently have. I agree, we need a BPS in MN. But I can't complain living as close as I do to Cabelas. Good Luck in the hunt! Quote
stkbassn Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 That Triumph is a good rod. I don't think you'd be disappointed in the least. For the money it's really hard to beat. The new Kistler Carbon Steel's are good rods as well if you're staying around the 100 dollar range... Quote
Taylor Peterson Posted March 5, 2014 Author Posted March 5, 2014 After checking out the specs of my vehicle, I've decided to heed some of your advice and get a one piece rod. 1 Quote
