jhoffman Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 Am I reading this right that you gotta buy the motor and the spike separate to the tune of $700 total? At $600 with the spike I'd still say its a tad high. $400 spike included I'd def try one on my aluminum. Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted March 4, 2014 BassResource.com Administrator Posted March 4, 2014 They retail for $595, all-inclusive. Quote
Tim Kelly Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 You can get poles and mounts which they use on flats boats, just stick the spike through the mount and stab it into the bottom. I can't see what the motor adds to the deal? Quote

Super User WIGuide Posted March 4, 2014 Super User Posted March 4, 2014 They retail for $595, all-inclusive. That price doesn't include the spike, or at least anywhere I've checked. You can get poles and mounts which they use on flats boats, just stick the spike through the mount and stab it into the bottom. I can't see what the motor adds to the deal? Those mounts cost anywhere from $100 to $250 a piece and you still have to buy the spike. The motor adds major convenience. With the manual systems you have to run to the back of your boat, pick the spikes up, put them in the bracket and then stick them into the bottom...if you can get them in. With the power pole you can deploy the spikes hands free and the units apply downward pressure to hold the spike down so it will hold your boat even if the spike can't dig deep into the bottom. Quote
Tim Kelly Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 I thought the mini power pole or talon thing had a pole you had to put through it just like the manual ones? Quote
Sun Fish Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 I thought the mini power pole or talon thing had a pole you had to put through it just like the manual ones? You don't have to put it in once you install it. It's fixed in there and you just deploy and raise the spike via the motor/pump controls with the talons and regular power poles. Not sure if the Mini requires removing the spike for trailering or anything like that. Quote
Tim Kelly Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 OK.not sure it's worth $500 to save you from walking 15ft to the back of the boat though! Quote
Super User slonezp Posted March 4, 2014 Super User Posted March 4, 2014 OK.not sure it's worth $500 to save you from walking 15ft to the back of the boat though! You're not walking anywhere. Its rated for 1500lbs total weight. It's designed for a small jon boat or hobie, or canoe. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted March 5, 2014 Super User Posted March 5, 2014 My boat is right on the upper limit of the weight range for this, now I am not so sure about it..........IDK $700 for the stake and motor is a little steep, the clamp on bracket is more to add on yet, and so is the battery pack if you want to run it with that, I am thinking a couple 10' fiberglass stakes from Grainger, and some farm shop fabricated brackets are looking more attractive all the time. Quote
VABasser Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 Yeah $700 is steep. It's a tempting thought however, especially if they end up dropping the price some. A power pole would be so clutch for the waters I fish. I'm not sure my boat falls in the 1500lb range though, my guess is it's a bit over that. It's a Tracker 185 with a 60 horse. Three optima batteries in it because we've got a 24 volt TM. Ww2, what kind of boat do you have? Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted March 5, 2014 Super User Posted March 5, 2014 Ww2, what kind of boat do you have? Tracker PT170 with a 25hp 4 stroke, I also have 3 batteries and run a 24v 70lb MK Maxxum. Boat/motor/trailer weigh 1800lbs, so minus the trailer it's close to the 1500lb limit. Quote

An 8ft Talon would be perfect for your rig. Runs about $500 more 3 Quote
Koofy Smacker Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 I went through the same thing. Ended up waiting for a sale from TW and got my 8' Talon through them for 1200 and change. I needed a mounting bracket for either of them and the Talon was a much better choice for my needs. For reference it went on a G3 Eagle 175 with a 60hp Quote

And yeah...I think If I go with a powered shallow anchor it will be the 8' Talon, untill then it will be a manual operated stake. That micro anchor seems like it's not going to work for me. 3 Quote

It seems like it was more or less designed for tiny jon boats, canoes and kayaks. But even them I think it is way over priced for what it is. It is just too close in price for the real thing which doesnt require you to: a.) buy a pole b.) store the pole somewhere in the boat when not in use c.) remove the pole when running down the lake or trailering. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted March 5, 2014 Super User Posted March 5, 2014 I liked the idea of the removable pole, I go in some tight spots where a regular power pole sticking up when it's folded would not allow me to fit and access these spots. That's why when it's time, it's got to be a talon with the tilt down bracket now. Quote
