Went out this weekend on L29.  Caught 30+, all small except for this nice one.  Caught mostly on Zoom Trick worms and Flukes.

Nice! The Husky Jerk (model HJ-10) is a killa down off the trail at this time of the year.

Thanks Capt Shane.  I'll give it try next time.  I seem to be catching mostly small fish, do you think its a product of the baits, or is that normal this time of year.  I just got the boat in November and I'm still in the learning curve.

It is the time of the year...give it a month and you will be full blown post spawn feeding freenzy.

Trick worms & Flukes do catch a lot of small fish. Throw a 13 inch worm and see what happens.

It's my favorite time of the year FROG season.....

Never really thought of a FROG season, is that now?  I've started using Frogs more and more, but I think I'm just pulling it right out of their mouth.  I've been using the Zoom Horny Toads in Watermelon, rigged with a 5/0 EWG hook.  Either the fish are too small, or I'm not letting them take it.  I have to start practicing more patience.

When your frog fishing and you see the hit, take up any slack then wait until you feel the weight of the fish, then set the hook hard and get his head up as quick as possible. Its usually a 2 count to feel the weight. You need heavy line to get the job done, most of the time they will be back in the slop, so heavy line is a must. Good luck!

You have horny toads, and also look at the hollow body frogs. Those are really FUN!! Once you experience a blow up and thud of a strong hookset, it's over....

Thanks for the info guys.  I've been using Horny Toads up to now, I do have some hollow body frogs as well, I'll give those a shot.  I'm using MH 7ft rod with 30lb braid.  I think I just haven't been waiting long enough.  I'm going to have to really concentrate on waiting till I feel the weight of the fish, it's just so d**n hard after you see a blowup on the frog.

It does take some discipline not pulling the trigger when the blow up happens. I had a bad hook up ratio a couple months ago in the glades, but i realized although the strikes were convincing the size of the bass hitting the frog was a different story. They were small bass hitting that frog with all their might. LOL... When the right bass comes along sometimes the blowup is non- existent, that's when you may have a pig on your hands. Every time a bass swims up slowly and slurps the frog, its been a nice pig.

Thanks Bassin. That's been my experience. I probably have a 30% hookup ratio and the frogs, and the ones I caught have been small. Hopefully the bigger fish will arrive in the canals since the water is dropping.

When the water drops enough and we have drought conditions its GAME ON!!. We are talking 50-60 quality bass on frogs alone. It's sick.
