buzzfrog Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 As I am liking jerk baits more, want to set me up small combo, fishing from shore so don't really want to use floro, so as topic says will 10 lb mono work, reel us just an ole h20 mettle Quote
tbone1993 Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 We use 8lb or 6lb fluoro for baitcasters. it can be done and will work with 10lb mono. Quote
Super User WIGuide Posted March 3, 2014 Super User Posted March 3, 2014 You shouldn't have any problems with 10 lb test at all. Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted March 3, 2014 Super User Posted March 3, 2014 I use 8 lb. mono on most of my Medium power rods. I am using 6 lb. mono on two of my baitcasters for lighter weights. I have no problem using either test lines. Quote
buzzfrog Posted March 3, 2014 Author Posted March 3, 2014 Thanks guys, never went below 14, lol always using braid or Fluro leaders. Thanks Quote
Super User Goose52 Posted March 3, 2014 Super User Posted March 3, 2014 10lb is my "standard" weight on BC reels - I go up and down from there as necessary. I do fish mostly open water so 10lb isn't a problem. Pic of a 10 pound line fish... Quote
shootermcbob Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 I use a lot of 10 lb. and 12 lb. mono...no problems with either on my baitcasters. Quote

tholmes Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 I routinely use 8 lb. Trileene Big Game on a couple of my baitcasters with no problems at all. 10 lb. is what I use for most crankbait fishing. Tom Quote

Took forever to get fish in. Quote
catchnm Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 10lb. Trilene Big Game would suit your purposes just fine. Some of the best mono on the market today. Quote

If you caught a 48 pounder on 4lb test - that was quite a catch indeed ! Quote
black94gt50 Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 Lol not quite 48 pounds mine was low 20 pound. I was impressed with the line after that, I have no idea how it didn't break. Quote

Sorry for underestimating it by so much. The head should have tipped me off to my error. Really nice fish and nice picture. Quote
buzzfrog Posted March 4, 2014 Author Posted March 4, 2014 great then man, I actuall picked some spider wire, co poly for 4 bucks at dicks on clearance Quote

Sorry for underestimating it by so much. The head should have tipped me off to my error. Really nice fish and nice picture. It's always hard to tell from photos. The one below, also caught on 10lb test, is close to your estimate at 41 pounds but with that big belly looks heavier than the 48 pounder. To the OP - sorry for drifting on your thread but at least you can see that in open water, 10lb test can handle some sizeable fish... Quote
