buckeye_bass66 Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 I'd like to dedicate this topic to every fisherman that hits the water with their old lady. Every so often on the lake if see a couple going around flippin pads having a great old time. I decided to teach my girl how to flip for bass and she's a quick learner, considering I took me the whole summer to TRY to teach my friend and he still can't get it. In a tourney I'd deffinently choose her over him lol she caught more fish in 2 trips than my buddy has ever caught the whole summer Hahahaha and I mean it a win win you get to fish and have your girl right by your side Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted March 3, 2014 Super User Posted March 3, 2014 FWIW.... I can't stand people who call there wives, girlfriends, etc.... Their "old lady ". It's garbage. 8 Quote
wakeeater Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 c'mon, man! i don't use the term "old lady" either, but there's no reason to post what you did. i'm sure he meant no offense. i don't fish with my wife, she has other things she'd rather do. Quote
Super User AK-Jax86 Posted March 3, 2014 Super User Posted March 3, 2014 My girlfriend loves to fish with me. Havent been out with her in a while since my buddy got his boat, and he is jealous lol. But when we go out I always have my fishing stuff with me and I will ask her if we can stop and fish. BIG mistake because I always throw out the first cast then she takes over and makes me play with our son lol. I can't argue since I always go out on the weekends fishing before or after spending some time with them, so she holds that over my head when I try to take the rod back lol. I cant wait until my son is old enough and I drop that money on a nice bass boat so we can all go fishing as a family, Sarah is onboard with that so I have just been saving money and counting down the days!!! shimmy Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 FWIW.... I can't stand people who call there wives, girlfriends, etc.... Their "old lady ". It's garbage. You took a good teaching opportunity and blew it. Don't think only in black and white terms. Yeh, i agree you should not call your girl "old lady" but his whole post was about the joys he has with the girl he appreciates and enjoys. Instead of being so judgmental, there are worse things that guys do than call their girls old lady and talk about how much they enjoy spending time with them. 3 Quote
macmichael Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 My wife, ( alias, The Warden), fishes with me all the time. Most times she fishes but sometimes she just reads. That's fine with me because I really enjoy her company. Quote

BassResource.com Advertiser FD. Posted March 4, 2014 BassResource.com Advertiser Posted March 4, 2014 90% of the time my Wife or Daughter or both are on the boat with me. 1 Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted March 4, 2014 Super User Posted March 4, 2014 My fiancé doesn't fish but she has stated that if we ever get a boat it has to have a big enough back deck that she can lay out and read on it while me and my 3 1/2 year old fish. I offered to get her a kayak so she could come out with me and she wasn't feeling that at all so i may be in the market for a boat in the next year or two. And for the record, i am not a fan of the "old lady" term either.......to disrespectful for my tastes. Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted March 4, 2014 Super User Posted March 4, 2014 For the record the term "my old lady" was very common in the 60's & 70's and was very much a blue color term. It was questioned by some but not considered disrespectful for the times. It was often used to denote long term marriages. 2 Quote

crankcaster100 Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 I wish my wife was into fishing but she hates it. I love her dearly but get so annoyed when she tells me "all you need is a worm and a hook" Quote
aceman387 Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 On the rare occasion my wife does go fishing with me she prefers to bobber fish with live bait. Her sport of choice is hunting. She owns two crossbows and a compound bow and this past hunting season she shot and killed three deer.So even though i have been tempted to call her "old lady" at times i am afraid to do so. Quote
jhoffman Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 Mine has went with me turkey hunting and had fun. Of course, it was the only morning all season when the birds showed up at the crack of dawn, then no joke the gun jammed. She will fish but doesnt have the patience for crankbaits or anything like that. Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 4, 2014 Global Moderator Posted March 4, 2014 Mine goes with me anytime she has the chance, which isn't as often as I'd like. She learns a little more every year and has come a long way since we started dating in 2008. Our first fishing trip together was to Table Rock in the spring of '09 and she was using a Zebco 33 Classic combo with line so old it broke every time I tried to tie a knot. Now she has a St. Croix Avid Pearl with a Quantum PT Energy. She broke both her smallmouth and largemouth PB's last year, about 2 weeks apart. As for the "Old Lady" thing, mine is 3 years older than me, so I have been known to point that out from time to time, but only very jokingly when she's in a good mood. 3 Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted March 4, 2014 Super User Posted March 4, 2014 Mine doesn't fish too much, just occasionally. She did have a bigger pb smallie than my regular fishing buddy for a while. I made good use of that showing this picture to everyone I knew to rub it in a little 3 Quote
Super User Felix77 Posted March 4, 2014 Super User Posted March 4, 2014 Mine doesn't fish ... she has other interests. But she supports my "need" to go fishing. Even with 4 kids I get out a lot more than most single guys! I am trying to convert some of my kids towards the dark side. Little by little the two younger ones are showing an interest. Let's see if it sticks. LOL Quote
dag623 Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 Extremely fortunate to have my wife as my fishing partner. Even on slow days I need only one glance back to remind me I can't catch anything better ;-) 2 Quote

And for the record, i am not a fan of the "old lady" term either.......to disrespectful for my tastes. Same for me.Mine never cared for it. But when I got my first boat, (an aluminum) she had the bright idea of getting a tan and going along for the ride. It wasn't long before she saw how much I was having catching fish that she picked up a spinning rod with a shaky head trick worm and started catching fish too. 12 years later, she backs my bass boat into the water ..which she bought for me while I was at work one day). She uses her own St. Croix Avid pearl rods and likes to run the front of the boat for me. She's not a nut about about it like me, but once on the water she shows a good intrest in how best to find and catch bass. I'm a blessed man. Edit- I need to go out tp the shop and show yall a pic, my wife BEJEWELED a Revo S reel! I wanted to get her a reel for her flipping rod and she had to have a white one... So Revo S it was, we get home and it wasn't two hours later before she had pink and purple stones on it.... I created a monster. 3 Quote
gripnrip Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 My wife isn't interested in hunting or fishing. She did say however if we ever got a boat she would go and lay out on the back. That's cool with me. She also encourages me going. She knows it relaxes me and respects my love for fishing. On another note. I don't care what other people call their spouses. She calls me a name I can't say on here and I call her an Ol' Hag. We laugh about it. I think it us up to the involved parties. I really don't care what other people think. Quote
BassnChris Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 If I remember correctly..................I only fished twice last year without my wife. Once was with a buddy of mine on my home lake.....................and the other time was one day on Pickwick at last years Bass Resource Road Trip. 1 Quote
