We went fishing Saturday and saw a Wolverine ...

Was just wondering what others have spotted on their trips fishing ?

We caught 3 keepers and kept a fire going for the kids ..

Just in case the Wolverine came back...lol  :)

There have been times I wished I'd had my bow or rifle.  I've seen some big ol' bucks while fishing, man!

Last time out, I saw a Bald Eagle.  Amazing to watch, especially as he was doing his own fishing fairly close to the boat.

They really made a come back around my part of central alabama. Had one that picked up a crippled duck while we were hunting there's a couple that nest on the river where we fish. But I still think ospreys are the coolest bird of prey

I've seen bald eagles and hawks catching more fish than I was. And I saw a raccoon swim all the way across the lake and crawl up on shore near where I was fishing one evening last fall.

A deer. Nothing unusual about seeing that I guess, but the circumstances were somewhat strange. It was in open water roughly 600 yards from any shore. We, and the guys from a few other boats, all stopped to watch it swim right along until it hit the opposite side of the lake. Then it went up the bank and disappeared into the woods, presumably to take a well deserved rest.

Heard this loud crashing coming through the woods when this huge doe appeared, then jumped into the lake and swam across it. She never once hesitated as she just launched herself into the air and came down with a huge splash into the water while never looking back. The reason for all this was she was be chased by Coyotes and once she got to the other side she got out of the water shook herself off and went on like nothing happened....Nature at its finest.

I was portaging up in Canada about three years ago. Me and a buddy were in a small river maybe 8 to 10 foot wide in a 12 foot boat. It was just a river between two lakes and when we got to the other lake there was a bigger boat and motor there for us. When came around a bend where the weeds were real high and there stood a full grown cougar maybe 20 yards from us. There was no way he didn't hear us coming. The water was down that year and we had seen more game then normal. The woods were pretty dry and they needed to come to the lake to drink. He stood there for a few seconds then turned and walked into the brush. I still wonder why he let us get so close. I saw one about 10 years ago in Costa Rica at a distance. They're a lot bigger when your sitting down looking them in the eyes.

Deer & Eagle sightings are a fairly common occurrence here.

Red Fox are seen maybe 4 or 5 times a season.

Black Bear twice in the past 7 years.  Bears are fun to see as long as I'm out on the Lake . . . :eyebrows:

I fish a lot at night and although I never see them, Owls and Coyote calls often fill the night air.

On an other wise quite night, while sitting in the back of a cove, that initial call of either echoing out of the pitch black woods always gives me chills.

Saw a Bald Eagle last year at a watershed lake, pretty rare in my area. It was pretty cool I saw it from a good distance and didn't realize it was an eagle. We got the boat a little closer and saw the nest in a pine tree right by the water. We spent 30 minutes just watching it. Got a good look at it grabbing a fish ans watched it head back to the nest, and noticed a baby in the nest. That made for a good fishing trip that day.

A big monkey that evidently followed the river from Silver Springs.

One of the  things I really enjoy about fishing, locally, is the wild life I see.

Birds of all kinds including bald eagles, owls and turkeys.  Deer, black bear, otters.  I really am intrigued by the alligators.  Always see a lot of them.  The little ones like to chase a surface lure right up to the boat.

It's always a kick to see some manatees, especially when they bump the bottom of the boat.

I really like catching fish but I'm easily sidetracked by everything else.

We see bald eagles quite often here along the Mississippi in Iowa.  There are a few spots of open water right now where you could go and see a couple of dozen sitting along the edge.  You southerners are welcome to take a few.

Probably the coolest thing I have seen wasn't that rare but it was interesting.  I quite often go back up in the creeks in the fall and one of them last year held a very curious beaver.  I see quite of few of them up here but this one seemed especially interested.  I scared him off the bank when I came into the creek and he proceeded to move along with me as I fished.  He'd swim about 20 yards in front then pop up and wait until I got close.  Did that for 20 minutes or so before I turned around to fish out and he followed me for most of the way back out before he finally disappeared.  Not sure if it was a mother with some little ones around or what but she sure didn't seem to scared of me.

I was fishing with a guide on KY lake a few years back and we saw a Cougar. Actually the guide saw it first, I only got a glimpse before it ran back up into the woods.

See bald eagles from time to time on some of the lakes around here which is pretty cool.

Oddest for me though was a mink we found playing in the rocks on a small island in the middle of Barkley Lake.  First I had ever seen, little guy must have swam all the way out there.
