Hey guys I purchased a daiwa t3 ballistic a couple months back and I'm having some problems with it. I used copolymer line with my reel and had no problems but I put braid on the reel and now when I cast it when it hits a certain point and the spool will stop almost immediately and it causes backlashes. I know what I'm doing with a bait caster to a point where a backlash becomes rare so I don't think it's my skill that's causing it because it's always at the same point when it stops and I was wondering if there's something wrong with the reel or if it's the braid that's causing it to happen.

Thanks,

What size braid? Could be a dug in line at that particular point which could explain the sudden stopping. You could try to peel off the line to where it keeps getting stuck and check.

I run 20lb fireline on my t3 ballistic and have never had an issue unless Ive been snagged up and then the line digs into itself from freeing the snag. If it was me I would respool with some cheap mono and see if its the line or the reel thats the culprit, although if you were running copoly and never had a problem I would assume its the line since thats the only thing that you changed....My .02

I agree it sounds like your line is digging in.  Braid should be spooled on tight.  Every so often I'll make a long cast, pull off a bunch more line, and hold the line tight between my fingers while reeling the line back in.  I do this even tho the line I use has a large enough diameter that it doesn't normally dig in.

I've used 50lb braid on mine and the reel can flat out launch a bait with it. Sounds like the braid is dug in. The rumor that T3's couldn't work well with braid has been dispelled. I've read many reviews and write ups about it on this and other forums.

All Ive ever run on my T3B has been braid, even relatively light stuff and I have no problem casting or with backlashes....Unless I forget to adjust the cowbell when I retie a heavier lure, goes like this.........cast,zing,poof, dangit!

I'm not trying to be rude or condescending by any means here but if you're having issues /w braid on a T3(or any reel for that matter) it's user error. I have multiple T3 1016's and 2 T3Bs. All have fluorocarbon except one of my T3B's. It is beyond easy and effortless to throw 30# braid on.

Line is probably dug in as others have said.  My t-3b casts braid wonderfully.  It is now my favorite reel.

I speak to many people who have issues with braid on baitcasting reels and most are very good with a baitcaster and I had issues with casting reels and braid for several months until I finally did one thing that has fixed it all....

I never would spool anything less than 10lb diameter mono on a baitcasting reel, and I do the same for braid...I know plenty of people can use #20 or #30 and I have never taken the time to be one of those guys. I find that #40 braid on any casting reel handles excellent if spooled properly with backing, tight, and making sure it does not dig after fighting a fish etc....The 8 strands like power prop plus, Samurai have helped me out big time for casting distance, and 832 and power pro are awesome for flipping due to sharpness.

I tried using lighter braids and had issues like others are describing and it became frustrating. Ever since I started using a 10lb dia min equivalent, I have not had any problems at all, and most customers I deal with find the same. I have customers who love #30 which seems to be popular, but Most of us are using #40-80 since it matches the line size we have used for years. I never spooled any mono lighter than 10lb diameter for 20 years, and I just think it is what I am used to and sticking to a braid with 10lb maybe 8lb min, seems to fix the problems with braid and casting reels....

With that said, I don't have braid on all my reels as I never know when it is going to be a windy day etc...I still like some Mono or a good copoly on a few set ups and the T3 casts Both Power pro and Plus great once you break it in and let the line soften a bit which happens after a few hours.

Softer 8 strands in higher thickness will usually fix problems of digging as well as previous posts regarding going back to the point of the did, or kink.....But nothing wrong with not using braid on a certain reel if not working for you, use what you like on each reel and be happy. Plenty of good Mono, Copoly, Fluoro, braids, superlines to use these days....

possibly you may be running your cast control a little loose. Happens to me with a couple of reels, when the lure starts to lose forward momentum during the middle of the cast but the spool is still rotating at a high rate it will loosen up the line on the spool and you get a stray loop that will backlash and lock up the reel and cause a backlash. I just have to play with the cast control a little to resolve the problem. T3 should handle braid like a dream
