CayMar Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 While out fishing today I started wondering, how big does a fish have to be to not be considered a dink anymore? Is it about length or weight? Is there a certain size written in stone, or is this a casual term where the size is based on your individual opinion? In your opinion is the fish in the attached picture a dink? In my opinion its not, but just barely. I consider a fish 2lbs or less to be a dink, that fish was like 2 lbs. 11oz. so he just made the cutoff for me. there is no right or wrong answer as far as I am concerned. I just want to hear everyone's perspective. Quote
Tartan34 Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 My opinion of a dink changed when I moved to Florida. It use to be anything less than a pound....but now.....I'd say your definition of 2 #s or under is a dink would fit, At 3 #s, the fish starts to become a "nice fish". 1 Quote
Super User QUAKEnSHAKE Posted March 2, 2014 Super User Posted March 2, 2014 No not a dink to me but like under 14" is 2 Quote
Super User jbsoonerfan Posted March 2, 2014 Super User Posted March 2, 2014 In our trail, it has to be 14" to be weighed in. So anything under 14" is a dink, lol. 2 Quote
TC235 <*))))>< Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 Anything under 3lb is considered to be a dink IMO Quote
The Rooster Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 It's not a dink anymore as soon as it swims out of sight and I began to tell the amazing catch story to someone else of how it blew up all over my topwater bait. Just ask anybody I've ever told a fish story to, they'll tell you I've never caught a dink in my whole life. 1 Quote
Wbeadlescomb Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 Depend on if I'm fun fishing or in a tourney. I've had a 5 fish limit of 12inch line burners that have won me money Quote
macmichael Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 A dink? I think maybe some of ya'll may be pulling our legs. LOL Quote
plumworm Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 Come on. any fish over the legal length is a nice fish. Just have fun catching them.I don't qualify each fish with an ego trip. Fishing is a jerk on one side of a line waiting for a jerk on the other side. 1 Quote
Super User RoLo Posted March 2, 2014 Super User Posted March 2, 2014 A Dink is a sub-legal bass; but there's a large white space between Dink and Toad. A Runt is a bass that's shorter than the lure Roger 2 Quote
slainempire Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 im glad i have the opinion that "if it has a head and a tail, its good." even if a fish is small at least something is still biting, you could be catching nothing instead. Quote
Loop_Dad Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 I call "dink" anything under legal. 2-> "2lbers". 3-> "3lbers" etc. Over 3 -> "nice fish". Quote
Super User NorcalBassin Posted March 2, 2014 Super User Posted March 2, 2014 Agreed... if it's legal it's no longer a dink. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 2, 2014 Global Moderator Posted March 2, 2014 If it's shorter than 15", it's a dink. I'd say if it's short of being a keeper, but quite a few of our lakes have 18" length limits and that's getting to be a 3+ pound fish, which is pretty solid fish around here. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted March 2, 2014 Super User Posted March 2, 2014 Depending where one lives and what other fish are targeted, for me catching a bass that looks to be about 3# is just ho-hum. I have the same ho-hum feeling about a 10# snook or a 30" barracuda, nothing to be doing a cartwheel over. Fun to catch yeah, but they're dinks. Quote
Super User tomustang Posted March 2, 2014 Super User Posted March 2, 2014 If the mouth ain't bigger than your fist, it's a dink Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted March 2, 2014 Super User Posted March 2, 2014 There is no such thing as a "dink"...........................well, except for Dinky, formerly WMDinKY. They are pre-trophy fish. It's all in the perspective. 1 Quote
CayMar Posted March 2, 2014 Author Posted March 2, 2014 I agree Rhino. There isn't one trophy bass out there that wasn't a dink at one time in its life. Quote
Super User Jar11591 Posted March 2, 2014 Super User Posted March 2, 2014 15 inches is enough to keep me entertained as long as there is a prospect of a bigger fish, but to me a bass is a "nice" one at 17" and above. Quote
Super User Catt Posted March 2, 2014 Super User Posted March 2, 2014 When I lip em with my fist instead of my thumb! 1 Quote
Super User Teal Posted March 2, 2014 Super User Posted March 2, 2014 If I set the hook on a fish 30 ft away and the hook set essentially boat flips the fish, then that's a Dink 3 Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted March 2, 2014 Super User Posted March 2, 2014 12" is the min. keeper length here. So less than 12" = dink. But that dosen't mean I consider a 12" fish anything special...........it's just a small keeper, they don't get "decent one" status untill they are over 2.5 lbs, and "big" is refrained from until they are 4+. 1 Quote
