bartdude186 Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 I bought a medium action pro qualifer combo from bass pro because i got it on sale for 89.00, and to add more sensitivity i want to go with braid, i'm planning on throwing light t-rigs, and light plastics on this rod in stained water. what size braid would you recommend for this setup? Jay Ell Gee Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 20lb Power Pro Super Slick, if it were me. You can always use a fluoro leader if visibility becomes an issue. Casts very well on my 50 size shimano. The PQ should throw it well. Was that the Christmas combo? Quote

Was that the Christmas combo? yea, it was the christmas combo, i'm not sure if it's as tough as the regular PQ but i figured i would give it a shot, so far so good. bought the combo bc i lacked a medium casting combo. i use regular Power pro on several other setups, looking foward to trying the super slick. Fish Murderer 71 Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 Twenty birdnests really bad for me, so I suggest any braid that has the same diameter as the minimum diameter for the rod. 1 Quote
Fish Murderer 71 Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 Something in the neighborhood of 0.33mm to 0.36mm... Quote

Insanity Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 I Use 20 as well. I tend to make them Bill Dance style hook sets on soft plastics. So I don't go less then 20 for that reason. I use Brekley Fireline because it has less of that cable sound coming threw the line guides then other brands I tried. How ever it's been years since I tried the others. Quote
Comfortably Numb Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 20# PP. Cant say I ever tried the slick Quote
Jay Ell Gee Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 20# PP. Cant say I ever tried the slick 'Tis niiiiiiiiiiiice. Quote
frogflogger Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 30# sufix on a med action rod has been my go to combo Quote
bartdude186 Posted March 2, 2014 Author Posted March 2, 2014 thanks for the replies guys, looks like im gonna give 20# a whirl and see what happens. Quote
mram10us Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 I tried the 20# PP, but it was birds nesting to bad for me on my BPS reels. I went to 30# and don't have as much of a problem. I'm fairly new to baitcasters though. Quote
Fish Murderer 71 Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 That puts you around 65lb braid doesn't it? 65# is 0.40 mm so something like a 30 or 40 lbs... Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted March 2, 2014 Global Moderator Posted March 2, 2014 The lowest I go on a baitcaster is 30#. Tried 20# one time and didn't like it, 20# on spinning Mike 1 Quote
