CentralFloridaBass Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 I'm wondering what you guys think the best rod for the money is. I'm looking at the Powell Diesel. I'm trying to keep the price under 100 and I will be using the rod as a utility rod that is 7ft MH. Thanks for any feedback. Quote
Blues19 Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 I love my Abu Garcia Veritas. They go for about $80 Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted March 1, 2014 Super User Posted March 1, 2014 Wait for the Fenwick Elite Tech Smallmouth rods to go on sale again. If you can't wait, look at the *** Black. The Daiwa Cielo 6'10" MHF (a $160 rod) is on sale for $90 at TW. The Denali Jadewood is another option, but if you need to really keep the price down, then consider a Berkley Lightning / Lightning Shock or a Shimano Sellus or Convergence. I was looking in the same price range except I wanted a spinning rod. After a few communications with a friend, I went with the Daiwa Procyon. The Carbonlite is suppose to be a very good rod in its price range. Only was able to use mine for a few minutes this past fall. Quote

Super User new2BC4bass Posted March 1, 2014 Super User Posted March 1, 2014 I have an *** Black, but have never used a Jadewood. For that reason I would go with a Jadewood just to see how it compares to the ***. I will say that casting the *** 1-handed has me feeling like I am going to lose the rod. The grip is too small for me. The taper on the grip doesn't help either. The reason I got a good deal on the rod is because the original owner casts mostly with one hand and did not like how the rod handled for him either. I almost always cast 2-handed so it really isn't a problem for me. I seem to be in a minority, but have read of a couple others with the same complaint. Also that extended use can cause some pain from the trigger (not the only rod I have heard similar complaints about). That has never bothered me. The *** is an excellent rod for the money in ever other aspect. It appears from the picture on TW that I would have no problem casting the Jadewood with one hand...should I ever be so inclined I can only pass along comments I have read on this rod. The majority of them are positive. TackleTour gave them an 8.0 Great rating. Link to review. http://www.tackletour.com/reviewdenalijadewood.html Quote
CentralFloridaBass Posted March 1, 2014 Author Posted March 1, 2014 What do you guys think of the St. Croix Mojo Bass? Quote
Super User iabass8 Posted March 1, 2014 Super User Posted March 1, 2014 What do you guys think of the St. Croix Mojo Bass? It was a good rod when it came out but the the times have passed it by. Still an okay rod but the options in the 100$ range are so vast now the mojo falls by the wayside now. Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted March 1, 2014 Super User Posted March 1, 2014 Any worthwhile links to the D-Red Back rods? I can't find anything other than advertising for the most part. No prices, no casting rods, just a couple spinning. Quote
OkeechobeeAngler Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 Ive had a Jadewood for a while now and love it. Recently just bought an ***. To me, the *** feels cheapish. I'm going to give it away and get something else. Quote
