Super User Montanaro Posted February 28, 2014 Super User Posted February 28, 2014 One of the small lakes I fish has a stretch of riprap along the dam. it is steep and drops to 20 feet quickly. In summer there is a watershield growing along it about 10 feet wide. starts at 2 or so feet deep and stops around 7 or 8. How should I approach this? I seemingly have better areas to punch on the other side of lake. Should I try anyway or should I fish the outer edge? And how should I fish outer edge? Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted March 1, 2014 Super User Posted March 1, 2014 I'd lead off with dropping a wacky rigged senko down the outer edge. Maybe run a buzz bait or a pop-r parallel to the outside edge, fairly close. If the water color was fairly clear (secchi disc reading of 4.5' or better), I might parallel a shad rap. There are 3 things to start, other than that I'd have to see it and compare that weed line/cover to what is available in other areas on the same lake. Quote
BuckMaxx Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 You didnt specify a water temp but from 45-60 degrees this is my go to spot. I parrellel the rocks 10' off the bank making long casts with a craw color crank or trap. If I get a few fish to react and show me they are there. I run it again with a chomper watermelon twin tail grub on a 1/4 oz head or watermelon jig and speedcraw. This will often get the ones to bite that werent quite aggressive enough to chase. Watch the 2013 classic most of the top ten were fishing the same situation as you describe. Quote
scrutch Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 Frog on top or craw colored crank on the deep edge. If the bass are tight to cover, I'd flip it on the shallow side with a rage craw. Quote
