jhoffman Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 The old trick of boiling a bait to soften it up, didnt work on the sick fish, all the color immediately fell off. 1 Quote
JeziHogg Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 lol, is the action on them that bad? Quote
jhoffman Posted February 28, 2014 Author Posted February 28, 2014 The ones with less paint colors are better than the more heavily done up ones. I think the green one called penny(?) is pretty soft. 1 Quote
JeziHogg Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 I guess there's a reason why they're so cheap. Quote

Super User Hooligan Posted March 1, 2014 Super User Posted March 1, 2014 They're really hard baits. The best thing to do with them is to trim them, rather than boil. Even then, they're just "OK." Quote

wisconsin heat Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 I peeled the paint off of the tail section of my 4in Chartreuse Shad, leaving only a white tail. The tail bends considerably more freely when compared to a Clear Bream (lots of paint) of the same size. I would like to test it out in water, but the trout stream I live by, where i test lures, has been froze over for the past few days. Quote
gobig Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 What are you Trimming ? A-Jay He is talking about shaving meat off the narrow part of the tail so it gets more kick. 1 Quote

Super User WRB Posted March 1, 2014 Super User Posted March 1, 2014 Use Little Crippers Trash Fish, the original that Reese copied. Trash fish have great colors and made of softer plastic. Don't boil your soft plastic, put them in the hot water after it comes to a boil, turn off the heat first! Tom PS, a Sharpie pen can be used to add color to soft plastics. Quote
Super User deaknh03 Posted March 1, 2014 Super User Posted March 1, 2014 What are you Trimming ? A-Jay the part that needs trimming Quote
vikingbear8 Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 This is exactly what I was going to say, I know the sick fish is cheeper but there is a reason it is cheaper, the original trash fish is leaps and bounds better. If you buy good soft plastic swimbaits you will rarely have a need to boil them. Use Little Crippers Trash Fish, the original that Reese copied. Super User CWB Posted March 2, 2014 Super User Posted March 2, 2014 Try sautéing them lightly in a wine/garlic sauce. Then let them simmer for about five minutes. They'll be fine. 1 Quote
Insanity Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 Shaving it thin! That's what I need to do to some baits I've tried in the past. I've cut slits under the tail, but to no avail. And never thought to shave the sides down. Duhh Thank you! Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 2, 2014 Global Moderator Posted March 2, 2014 Never boiled one, never had to, they catch fish just fine for me straight out of the bag. Quote
