CentralFloridaBass Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 Here in Orlando, FL we just had a cold front so i'm sure the bass went out to deeper waters. What i'm wondering is how long does it take for the bass to move back into shallower waters and start biting more aggressively again. It was cold on Thursday but it is warming up today and will be back to normal temperatures this weekend. I'm just hoping the bass are back to normal this weekend. Quote
John F. Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 Hmm, tagging along. I'm interested too. I have tried to establish patterns but I need work on my catching skills first. Quote

In this current situation, The cold front was rather mild and water temperature was effected slightly. With today being warm, the fish will move into shallows looking for mates and food. Already caught 2 today. As the air temperature goes up the fish should become more active. I would say 4pm to sundown being your best bet on catching them in shallows. 2 Quote
CentralFloridaBass Posted February 28, 2014 Author Posted February 28, 2014 Thanks Pz3 that's the answer i'm looking for! Quote
CentralFloridaBass Posted February 28, 2014 Author Posted February 28, 2014 Also one more thing, what were you catching them on? Quote
Super User MCS Posted February 28, 2014 Super User Posted February 28, 2014 I was reading on another forum discussing a more sevre cold and what they would do. The consensus was they want to come in a spawn, retreat isn't an option. They are holding in between, check first drop off or deep water near where they spawn. 1 Quote

Rattle Trap / Soft Plastic Baits *edit* Guy down near the boat dock I usually frequent Caught a 12lb bass today. Using a live Brim. The depth averages between 2-4ft deep water. With limited cover. This was around 3pm. Quote

We arent warm enough here yet for the pre spawn, but typically after a front I have a rule going through the pattern in my head and then just backing it up to the first deep breaks. The fish aren't going far. Even if they aren't in a feeding mood, I still want to go try for a reaction strike. This may mean slowing down on the presentation or going more subtle. Key words there, back up and slow down. Quote
Brian Needham Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 the best time to go fishing is : WHEN YOU CAN. cold front....... just fish slower and work cover and structure thoroughly. 1 Quote
