Just wondering what you guys recommend pairing a Shimano Calais with for all around fishing

Congradulations on the nice reel!

I just bought an older Loomis MBR843IMX and I have a feeling that it will be used for jigs n worms, spinnerbaits, swim jigs, Scroungers, small swimbaits, buzz baits etc. People also like the Loomis MBR783 as an all purpose rod.

When you say Calais which one are you talking about DC, 100A or 200A ....

As roadwarrior said, a 7' MHF makes an excellent all-around rod.

Thanks everyone, actually buying the reel on the 14th it will be the DC I'll probably pick a rod from 13

Very sweet reel one you will be very happy with, it is a pure caster...Make sure you play with the wind setting when it is windy out it really does work.....I would not have a problem putting that on a MBR 783C or a 782C.

Have you handled any casting rods from 13 yet?  Do you often cast with one hand?  If so, I would suggest trying before buying.  A minority...of which I am one...don't like casting one hand with these rods as the handle diameter is so small.  However, they are excellent rods otherwise.  I almost always cast 2-handed, so it doesn't affect me much.

How far south in Jersey do you live?  I work in Warren off I78.  I'd be willing to bring my *** for you to handle if you don't have any place near you to handle one.

@new2 thanks for the info and the offer. I'm way down south but again thank you for the offer. I'll have to look at their website to see if there are any dealers near me.
