What is the NMEA function used for on a Humminbird? I saw a youtube video on how to turn it on but have no idea what it is used for and after a google search all I discovered is that it stands for National Marine Electronics Association.

It allows you to connect the HB to your engine to monitor engine functions.

Exactly. your engine/s would need their own sensor harness to connect to the NMEA adaptor to display data on the Humminbird.
