SpencerLittle Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 Do any of ya'll have a lot of success with these things? I've tried flipping a beaver and didn't catch anything so quickly switched to a go to when my buddy was catching them. I know they are generally good for punching and fishing grass, but flipping bushes and willows is a huge make up of my fishing. Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted February 28, 2014 Super User Posted February 28, 2014 Smallmouth....largemouth....doesn't matter. Beavers are great baits. I usually rig mine on a 1/8 oz. 3/0 swimbait hook. The kind with the spring keeper on the eye. Has worked very well for me in past seasons. Quote

I know they are generally good for punching and fishing grass, but flipping bushes and willows is a huge make up of my fishing. Probably 75% of the time when I'm flipping and pitching to cover (whether it be grass, bushes, laydowns, etc) I use a beaver style bait. Great all-around pitching/flipping bait. Quote
Crookedneck Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 I like to use a smaller beaver 3.5 inch a 1/0 or 2/0 EWG with a 1/4 bullet weight.....killer bait for smallies in current around rocks, rubble and lay downs. I have also been known to drop shot with one on bedding smallies. Quote
Big Fish Rice Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 SpencerLittle, looks like you didn't mean to post in the smallmouth forum, but yes, they're great baits for smallmouth and largemouth.I like the 4.25" Quiver Bug from Warrior Baits. They're thick and durable, which is exactly what I like for flipping and pitching. I like the larger plastics because most anglers flip and pitch the smaller creatures. Adds something a little different. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted March 29, 2014 Super User Posted March 29, 2014 Rage Tail will be introducing a new bait very shortly. I can't wait for the Big O version! 2 Quote

smallieking Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 When the smallies relate to grass nothing beats a 1/8 ounce texas rigged strikeking rodent. smallmouth love them. Ive caught em on the finger lakes in NY, Lake Erie, All throughout PA. I have more confidence in a rodent than I do a tube anymore Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 1, 2014 Global Moderator Posted April 1, 2014 I don't consider that a beaver style bait. That's not a beaver bait?? I've become a big fan of the Netbait B bug, and yes the smallies love them! I like to drag them on a swinging football head. The smaller beaver baits are smallmouth killers on a shakyhead. Quote
Super User Shane J Posted April 1, 2014 Super User Posted April 1, 2014 Yeah, Strike King pretty much considers them a beaver bait, too, which is why we've (well, you all) have had to wait so long for a Rage Tail beaver bait. Big O had it nailed a couple years ago, but you know. I do know this. That the "Bug", is the the best one out there, bar none. Quote

Super User S Hovanec Posted April 4, 2014 Super User Posted April 4, 2014 I cut Smallie Beavers in half and dropshot them. You don't want to try it tho, they don't work that way. Quote

Scott let your wife fish the whole size ones while you fish the 1/2 pieces and let me know the score at the end of the day for biggest fish. I'll bet she wins. Quote
Super User S Hovanec Posted April 4, 2014 Super User Posted April 4, 2014 I've never caught one on a whole bait! I don't get it. I'd hit them! Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted April 4, 2014 Super User Posted April 4, 2014 I have seen smallies choke a pointer 128 down. Are your beavers bigger than that? Quote
Super User CWB Posted April 5, 2014 Super User Posted April 5, 2014 Rage Tail will be introducing a new bait very shortly. I can't wait for the Big O version! Saw a prototype image of this. My bet is it will quickly become one of the best sellers in the Rage line. 1 Quote
Super User Shane J Posted April 5, 2014 Super User Posted April 5, 2014 I agree, CWB. It's a fish catching maniac! People are gonna love it! Quote
Super User S Hovanec Posted April 5, 2014 Super User Posted April 5, 2014 I have seen smallies choke a pointer 128 down. Are your beavers bigger than that? I've caught them on Pointers.....and 5" tubes and 5" hula grubs. But for some reason, never on a whole Smallie Beaver Quote
