They honestly catch fish. I dont have a ton of jerkbaits so I would get 2 spro over one megabass to get more bang for my buck. Quote
Super User iabass8 Posted February 27, 2014 Super User Posted February 27, 2014 Are the megabass ito's really worth the extra $$? i understand that they are "works of art", but really are they worth going and investing in a tackle box filled with them? last time i checked art doesnt catch fish!!! you're right, it doesn't, but jerkbait fishing is about presentation. vision 110's have a very unique action to them which is why they are so productive. they aren't the answer for the one bait to rule it all as others will work in different situations and out fish the 110. all jerkbaits aren't created equal. depth, water clarity, time of year, mood of fish, water temp, and the list goes on are factors in deciding which style of jerkbait to fish. the megabass vision 110 isn't a gimmick and it flat out produces. Super User smalljaw67 Posted February 27, 2014 Super User Posted February 27, 2014 There are a ton of great jerkbaits, the thing I found is they seem to draw big strikes more often, or should I say more consistently. The same thing was asked about Pointers from Lucky Craft, the deal with those were the finishes plus the suspending qualities but there are time when other baits will do better. I have a couple but I prefer other baits over them like the Smithwick Rogue, people think I'm lying but I have about 25 or 30 Rogues, I use the shallow floating versions in the summer and in the cold water period I use the suspending rogues and the super rogues and even the super rogue jr.s and they flat out work but I keep a 110 and a Pointer 100 with me for the times I need to get a fish to bite and they won't commit to other baits. BUT it is hard to pull the trigger on a $25 bait. it was hard enough to step-up and get the LC Pointers. but i did and i am glad i did. they flat out catch fish for me. i prefer the 78's over the 100's due to the size of the bait fish here. no if the da*n ice would melt...i could get out and throw them... 1 Quote
craww Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 They work great. I paid $25 a pop for a few years ago and loved them. But rogues and rc stx's load the boat in theyre own right when the time is right and at a fraction of the price. The megastrikes are a shameless copy, but as a consumer Im not complaining. They are very good baits. I havent had any hardware hiccups, theyve suspending good and just get crushed. 1 Quote
jhoffman Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 A 110 is a decent size jerkbait, keep that in mind based on where you live. I own some but I also own size 8 xraps because smaller jerkbaits seem to produce better for me when that water is really cold. Theres a reason they make the smaller ones like the pointer in a 68, those pray fish arent always gonna be a 110 size. Quote

You have to tune a knockoff to sit the same way. You also have to change the hooks to get a similar hook up ratio. Megabass trebles are turned outward. Quote

The ones we get in the US have the "down eyes" and the ones from Japan have straight eyes. A lot of pepole think the Japanese version has a better attitude in the water. This is a straight eyes in the Deadly Black Illusion color, (not the same as the Deadly Black they make now). They have a couple like it on EBay now for $55-65 each! 1 Quote

Vision110 is probably the most reached for jerkbait that there is, anywhere. It is a combination of the action, the way the bait is made, the finish, and the durability. I've broken SO many of the knockoffs that I quit fishing them. They just aren't worth the hassle to me. Only 1 out of a dozen would actually run right, and even fewer would suspend. I gave up and sold all of them for about a buck a piece. The JDM 110 and the USDM 110 are said to act completely different in the water; I've never witnessed it. They perform the same for me, across the board. I've caught fish on both of them side by side, and had virtually the same catch rate as a partner throwing the opposing bait. They sound very slightly different, but not dramatically. The thing that the straight eye has, in my opinion, that the USDM doesn't have is a handful of colors. Worth it? Depends on the value you place on catching fish in tough situations. Quote

The JDM version of the 110 is a true suspending bait, the 110 we have here is listed as a slow riser, it was only in the last 3 years or so that Megabass USA added the "suspending/slow rising" to the description. The one thing I liked about the RC STX better than the 110 was it did suspend better but my Megabass Hi-Float is the only floating jerkbait I ever caught a bass on in cold water and by cold I mean less than 45 degrees. At times the 110 is unbeatable but I've witnessed a lot of days were an X-Rap would out fish them but the biggest difference is like the yellow magic poppers, the 100 has an ability to get fish to hit when they normally wouldn't take a jerkbait, the same thing with those poppers, the fish hit them when they don't normally take a topwater.
