I'm going to make this as concise as possible and maybe help someone out.

I heard about the launch of this affordable magnesium reel last year and have anticipated getting my hands on one ever since. NOW - I've never been a huge fan of quantum reels.... they never felt right in my hands and always felt kind of bulky and just crappy. I waited until my local tackle shop got in there shipment of Tour MG's so I could put my hands on it BEFORE buying. Well -----

I put my hands on it and INSTANTLY fell in love with it. SO light. SMOOTH movements. Super comfortable in my hands. I paired it with a Shimano Cumara and it is by far the LIGHTEST setup I have ever used (for the price).

PROS:

- LIGHT!!!

- Smooth casting

- Cast's literally a mile. I can rocket a weightless fluke out there!

- Small profile so I can palm it really well

- Smooth drag.

- GREAT price for a magnesium reel.

CONS:

- Adjusting the brakes is a tad difficult. You have to remove the whole sideplate.

- It has a "flippin' switch." I'm not a fan of these at all. I feel it's completely pointless. Does anyone actually use those things?!

OVERALL: I love this reel. I like it more than a curado. I like it more than my AG STX. For $250, I believe I will be outfitting a few more of my setups with this reel. We will see how it holds up over time, but for now, I'm SUPER impressed. I don't know what it is, but this reel lets me ROCKET my baits out. I can get a weightless fluke out about twice the distance of my AG STX!!!! Like I said, I've never been a fan of the quantum reels, but this one has completely changed my mind. LOVE it!!! Running it with 12lb Seaguar invizx

Quantum makes some decent stuff if you get into the 125-150 and up range. Use the flipping switch on mine when I flip and pitch because I haven't mastered pitching with my left hand. When my thumb comes off the spool it's instantly in gear if a fish hits

Thanks for the review. I am very interested in this reel, mostly for flipping and pitching, my biggest drawback is I dont have a rod light enough to be well balanced with this reel on, so Until I decide to get a super light rod I will have to hold off on this reel.

I have some Quantum reels that work well but I always thought the Abu Garcia Revos were great and nothing Quantum had could compete until I got a Smoke. I know a lot don't like them, for me if it works great and I have 2 Smoke reels, a 2nd generation Revo Premier, and a Lews Tourney Pro and that is how I ended up with 2 Smoke reels. I got the Smoke before the Lews, and my second Smoke came after, to me, if all their reels are at the level of the Smoke then I will grab another, to me the Smoke was the best reel Quantum ever made but I never tried an EXO as I'm happy with what I have. I'm not sure about Magnesium reels at any price.

TW lists the Tour 100 MG at $279.99. If you're comparing it to a Curado I and a Gen3 STX, you're comparing it to significantly lower priced reels. I would be interested to see how it would compare to a Chronarch CI4+ and Lews Team Pro.

It certainly is a pretty reel. I look forward to the six-month report! Just don't drop the sideplate in the lake.  :respect-059:

I agree on the price point comparison.

Comparing it to a CI4+ Chronarch would be a fair challenge.

Regardless, I have handled them and am very impressed.

Just wanted to get in before the thread was locked for someone saying they prefer a reel over a Shimano. Just kidding. :)

I can agree with you guys on the price comparison. I just look at my Revo STX as pretty much my best reel. I've never really been willing to dive in the $200+ range because I've never used one with any significant advantage. The only reason I snagged this was because it literally feels like heaven in my hands.

I'm telling you.... paired with a Cumara, the setup is like butter. Can't wait to start flipping docks with it!

Glad to hear it cast and retrieves well. I would give it a solid 6 months of use before opting to purchase another
