basshole77 Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 Has anyone used a Daiwa Aegis yet? It looks pretty sweet and has good specs. Any thoughts? What in Daiwa’s spinning reel line up would this be equivalent to and how would you compare? Super User Raul Posted February 27, 2014 Super User Posted February 27, 2014 I don´t own an Aegis but I do know the equivalent, it´s a more modern and refined version of the Daiwa Revros ( which I own ), there are some differences, the Revros is aluminium, the Aegis is Zaion ( another fancy name for carbon composite ) which is not bad. 2004 indicate 2 things, it´s a 2000 size reel, and it´s a shallow spool version for PE ( braided, 30lbs or less ) or thin monofilament ( 6lb test or less ), there´s a cool feature, the spool has a small depression in the middle so when you tie your anchor knot it can fit in it, great for braided line, that way it won´t slip. As I said, I don´t own an Aegis, I own a Revros and it has become one of my favorite reels, it´s silky smooth, the drag is fluid and responsive. Quote
Super User .ghoti. Posted February 27, 2014 Super User Posted February 27, 2014 TW put the JDM Certate on sale as part of their 25 days of Christmas deal, so I bought a 2004 model. If I hadn't purchased that reel, I would have ordered an Aegis. I'd been looking at the Aegis for a couple weeks and hadn't pulled the trigger. Quote

daiwaguy Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 The Certate is a much better reel than the Aegis. X2. But the Aegis is still a top notch spinning reel. But it is kind of like comparing a Stradic to a Stella. Quote

I knew that, and didn't want to spend that much on a finesse spinning reel, which will see limited use in my game. The Aegis fit what I had in mind to spend. TW's sale made the Certate a no-brainer. Yup, I also saw that sale, was tempted to but, this time TheBaitMonkey´s powers weren´t powerful enough .......just to make me purchase something else a few minutes later. The never ending story ..... Quote

basshole77 Posted February 27, 2014 Author Posted February 27, 2014 Thanks for the input! I may end up wit a Certate myself. Might as well go big! Quote
