Bobby Uhrig Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 There is always going to be controversy over what wins a classic or any tournament or basically anything that has a positive or negative in life about it. Im going to go with what he said- He was driving down the lake and something came over him and said to change his direction and go fish that particular area . He said "God" or something told him to change -He felt a calmness and just went fishing. I don't believe it was a particular lure but more of location that was really what was key. Location locaton location. The fish were there for a reason. stageing- He could have used a variety of different lures to catch those fish but was using that one that was working. RIGHT PLACE RIGHT TIME It was his turn to win and that's it- I have fished tournaments for years and like I said when its your turn -its your turn-just something magical happens and it all comes together. I have made casts when I got a bait stuck in a tree and when it came lose-hit the water and a 4 lbr hits hit -go figure. Bottom line is-Randy is just a great stand up person -he is a believer of God and everything comes from that- Evidently God was his marshal that day. Randy has paid his dues for the last 21 years and no one never had a bad thing to say about him. So about the lure-hmm you make the call about what caught the fish-Rapala -Livingston- Hmm Im going with Devine Intervention-- That's my new color of choice- And no one steal that either or I'll kick you B'ass Ok Im done- 5

TorqueConverter Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 "God" is a cheapskate. He shoulda materialized some big bass in his live well instead of just telling him to go beat that bank over there. 2
Bobby Uhrig Posted February 25, 2014 Author Posted February 25, 2014 He has a sense of humor as well- Next time you snap off that 7 lbr- Yikes LOL I would retract that statement LOL 1

KDW96 Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 Congratualations Randy! As far as lure-hmm-id say its made you a bunch?
Super User Jrob78 Posted February 26, 2014 Super User Posted February 26, 2014 LIvingston is a sponsor of BASS. If Howell upgraded his catch on their lures, it will show up on the telecast this weekend. BASS wants Livingston to do well.
camovan Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 If he won and was using megastrike on his bait would it still be divine intervention? 4
Super User K_Mac Posted February 26, 2014 Super User Posted February 26, 2014 Divine intervention? I have many thoughts and opinions on this matter. None of them are appropriate here. There is simply no way having an intelligent discussion of this without religion being central to it. I like the guy and am glad he won. I support what I know of his views on Christianity. See what happened there? 3

mnbassman23 Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 This topic just seems odd coming from a man who makes baits. That is all. 3
Koofy Smacker Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 Bobby, I was working the Livingston booth at the Oaks, PA show. Saw you walk by a few times and meant to swing over and say hi but we got so busy over the weekend I never got a chance. Gut feelings have a way of working into things and it depends on who you are as to what you attribute that too whether its god or just intuition. Randy started catching them on a DT6 and culled up using a new Livingston bait which has a different bait design to it which runs shallower than the DM14

Bobby Uhrig Posted February 26, 2014 Author Posted February 26, 2014 I just want to make it perfectly clear that this is not about religion or about anything negative about Livingston Lures /Rapala or any other bait company. What it was about was how Randy make a life changing decision based on a feeling that he had gotten weather religious or not. . I know those guys at Livingston and are all great people. So please do misinterpret that part. As for the location and baits yes as I said it all becomes part of the puzzle that materialized. He used whatever he did by years of experiance of time on the water. As for location -It is the most important part of the puzzle but then all of the little parts /components must be applied as well. If randy caught his fish using a rapala then had the experiance to say -Hey lets try this Livingston lure bait that does or acts differently- Thats what makes him a professional- the experiance to make a change and it worked for him.. hey ya never know -it could have not worked at all-but i am glad that it all worked out for him. Ok lets end this Everyone has their opinions and rights of religion and we are noing to go there.-congrats to Randy -rapals -livingston and everything else-

Randy started catching them on a DT6 and culled up using a new Livingston bait which has a different bait design to it which runs shallower than the DM14 I'm real interested in those baits. They look to be of a completely different design than any other Livingston Lure design I've seen. They lack the Norman knock off look of their other baits. They have a much more contemporary aesthetic and the color I saw looked like an orange readish color that I have not seen from LL. Blinking lights and noise be damned, those cranks look tasty.
Super User Sam Posted February 26, 2014 Super User Posted February 26, 2014 Bobby, if you listened to what Randy said he mentioned both the Livingston and Rapala DT-6 as the baits he caught his fish. He also said the magical word: "prototype." Randy had a prototype and he caught fish on that lure. Not the ones in the stores but a new "prototype" that has not be introduced to date. That is all I can add to this thread. Heading out to buy about hundred Livingston's and a thousand DT-6's!!!!!! 1
Zach Dunham Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 This topic is ridiculous. Anyone can believe whatever they want. The reason people are talking about this is because everyone is saying what a great guy Randy Howell is and at the same time questioning whether or not he exaggerated the amount he used the Livingston prototype because it was his sponsor, or if he outright lied. Either of those things are very unbecoming of a "good man". BUT There is no video proof of either right now so we can't say anything. The only thing we know is he sure caught a hell of a lot on the DT6 in the GoPro video. Maybe he did actually cull out a bunch of those with this new Livingston prototype and this whole conversation is a waste of time. We shouldn't going after a man's reputation without giving him the benefit of the doubt here. 1
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted February 26, 2014 Super User Posted February 26, 2014 I can't believe I'm saying this... ^ I agree with the Idiot. 5
Super User Hooligan Posted February 26, 2014 Super User Posted February 26, 2014 All that being said, there are a lot of stills and some fan video of Randy culling fish with a different lure than the Livingston. It almost looks like an Old School Wart. I wish I could find the picture I saw yesterday that showed the bait really close up in a fish's maw- it was definitely not a Rapala, and the sequence showed him culling with that fish. Regardless- Bobby, you're still a nutcase. And you make terrible goo that none of my tournament opponents should ever use. Ever. Particularly not when it comes time to throw swimbaits post spawn. Or at all., ever... 1
Bobby Uhrig Posted February 26, 2014 Author Posted February 26, 2014 You scoundrels !!!LOL Speed - Hooligan-- Let me tell you something --If he was using megastrike he wouldn't even of had to go on the water the second and third day- he could have just sat and ordered pizza like Timmy Horton LOL OK OK JUST KIDDING Ok again lets end this thread - Lets start a new one -- Here ya go -Glenn was supposed to take us all out at the Bass Masters Classic for dinner That SOB skipped out and left me and Roland and the other guys hanging -- Hes no good I tell ya - 2
