BostonMahhk Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 Hey guys. I'm having an issue with my trailer lights. The running lights are all on and working but when I put my blinkers on they're blinking so dimly you can barely see it happening. I assumed it was a ground issue and when I checked the main ground it was loose so I cleaned it and tightened it down but I'm still having the same problem. Any ideas? Quote
Super User J Francho Posted February 25, 2014 Super User Posted February 25, 2014 A new harness is around $12. I'd start fresh. Takes about an hour to rewire. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted February 25, 2014 Super User Posted February 25, 2014 Try spraying some electrical contact cleaner in the female end of the connector on the tow vehicle, and sand down the male connectors. If that doesn't work, you can try replacing the harness. Another thing to check for is a small rub thru area causing a partial short. Not enough to blow a fuse, but enough drain voltage. 2 Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted February 25, 2014 BassResource.com Administrator Posted February 25, 2014 Have you tried replacing the bulb yet? Start simple, work backwards. Quote
BostonMahhk Posted February 25, 2014 Author Posted February 25, 2014 Not yet cause they're all on. I assumed if the running lights were on then the bulbs were ok Quote
BostonMahhk Posted February 25, 2014 Author Posted February 25, 2014 Hey Jfrancho, I have an 08 nitro trailer. All the wires are inside the hollow metal rails. Any suggestions on how i should fish them through or what to use or should I just join it to the old harness and pull it through that way? Quote
Super User J Francho Posted February 25, 2014 Super User Posted February 25, 2014 Use the old wires to fish them through. A quick "J" connection, and electrical tape is strong enough to fish the new wires through. Get some waterproof shrink connectors, and solder the wires, and you'll be good for years. Check any rubbing points, and cover with rubber grommets,. if possible. 1 Quote

I would rather have an extra wire to rewire something down the road or add something rather than having to pull something through the hard way. Even if you dont use that wire you can always use it to pull other ones through. Also check for rough spots on the trailer tubes. I wouldnt want to pull wire and risk putting a tear in it. Quote
jhoffman Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 Might even be as simple as pulling the current bulb and hit its base with light sandpaper. I need to redo my wires this summer myself but mine actually work. Quote
