JDFishing Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 Working the Navionics booth this weekend at the Bassmaster Classic Expo, there's was much hype behind the Navionics SonarCharts and how it's elevating lake mapping standards by putting anglers closer to the fish in a much more efficient matter. Here's a quick screenshot of one of the many examples on Guntersville where newer, fresher maps show how SonarCharts stays up with lake current and how natural elements effect the lake bottom. Here's the original from when the lake was surveyed. Here's how SonarCharts is shows these changes and also shows where the fish will hide on these main lake ledges. Quote
Pa Angler Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 I did look into the 3D charts it didn't include the St Lawrence River or Black Lake, NY I spend 5 weeks there doesn't have as much water as the 2D version. Tight Lines Pa Angler Quote

Tight Lines Pa Angler Navionics Hotmaps Platinum, Navionics Hotmaps Premium and Navionics+ have the exact same maps if they are current. That is the purpose of the Freshest Data updates that have been in affect since mid 2010. Black Lake is included but only has a single 10' contour line with the Navionics map and has 1' contours with the Sonar Charts layer.. The St. L river is done like coastal/tidal waters with spot soundings as long as it contacts the US border. It covers a little farther down stream after it is wholly in Quebec. Quote

Super User Wayne P. Posted February 27, 2014 Super User Posted February 27, 2014 Did you LOOK at the Web App maps? I did, and I have a current updated Navionics Hotmaps Platinum East card that has the same data as the Web App. I was looking at the coverage for the river and lake on both as I was typing my response. Super User Wayne P. Posted February 27, 2014 Super User Posted February 27, 2014 OOOOHHHH, I misunderstood that you didn't see the waters at all. So you just want the 3D view of those. Well you won't get a 3D view of waters that are not HD surveyed. Those are not HD surveyed. BUT, the 3D is a fantasy. The contour lines are not accurate enough to depict the true shape of the bottom even if the body of water is HD surveyed. If you think what you are seeing with the 3D is real, you are mislead. Quote
