TrapperJ Posted February 24, 2014 Author Posted February 24, 2014 It sounds like a frog croaking to me, supposedly that's what a dying baitfish sounds like, but I've spent more money on worse things so I'll give them a shot to conduct my on tests. Their 20% off at the bps upcoming sale. I want to try a lipless too. If anyone was thinking about trying them it would be probably the best time to give them a shot. Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted February 24, 2014 Super User Posted February 24, 2014 DT- 6 &  Livingston Lures ~ this happens Every Year . . . . .  My question is - do you think BASS will Ban the Livingston Lure like they did the A-Rig ?   A-Jay 3 Quote
Super User AK-Jax86 Posted February 24, 2014 Super User Posted February 24, 2014 This is how it always is after major events not surprised one bit, can't lie I will grab a few though lol 1 Quote
The Rooster Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 I don't know but I seriously hope this is not the future of bass fishing lures. I googled Livingston lures to see what they are. What I saw, I did not care for. Electronic lures? What a turn off that is to me. I'm sure they aren't cheap but I never even looked to see. I just saw a circuit and was put off by it so I lost interest immediately. I just don't buy into gimmick lures. 1 Quote
Rangerphil Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 Dt 6 is awesome! I have been on the dt series of lures since they came out some years back. The bills do break but they catch fish! Glad to see that crank is getting some attention. I also saw either Cody Cardin or dean Rojas can't remember who but they caught some fish on a bandit in the mistake color! That crank in that color is an awesome cold water color! Quote

Tartan34 Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 They had a trailer at the Toho Southern Open Weigh-In, and I stopped in to check the lures out. Â They had the clear versions to show the insides, and I found the exact same thing that you did. Â The circuit board, with LED lights, and the frog sound turned me off. Â Â Well that and the lack of smaller profile baits. Â The person manning the booth was in agreement with me that the forage of the lakes I fish didn't come clear to matching the cranks in size. Â I wanted to buy the trap, but couldn't with the LED lighted eyes. Â Â I don't know but I seriously hope this is not the future of bass fishing lures. TrapperJ Posted February 24, 2014 Author Posted February 24, 2014 As much as I love electronics, video games, technology, etc this idea interests me, I also installed a hydrowave on my boat, so if I'm willing to do that I knew I surely gotta give some of these lures atleast a try for myself. You don't know till you throw! Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted February 24, 2014 Global Moderator Posted February 24, 2014 The Demon color DT is sold out in 3 of the 5 sizes on TW now  Almost all the rest of them are still in stock though 1 Quote
Super User *Hootie Posted February 24, 2014 Super User Posted February 24, 2014 I was always amazed at how many people would come into BPS and want a particular lure in a particular color basing their decision solely on so and so won a tournament with it. No consideration given to their water color, season, or other factors that are much more important. For example, the lake I fish is so muddy and murky that throwing a jerkbait is a waste of time. You can't see a white spinnerbait six inches deep. Yet let someone win a tournament with a jerkbait, and guys will be throwing them with wild abandon. Hootie 2 Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted February 24, 2014 Super User Posted February 24, 2014 The DT6 is probably the most universal crank on the market, in the "Ikes colors" I use "smash" and on the regular colors I use firetiger, bleeding olive shiner, and blue shad. If you watch that video of him he was crushing fish on that DT6, it was so visible that he had to tell everyone what he was using, and there is a video of the G-Man saying he was going to try using a Rapala Shad rap as he doesn't know of any other crank that works as well in cold water. I think what makes that effective is the bait is the perfect size as it appeals to fish of all sizes but he was fishing in an area that was loaded with staging fish, he was catching them every other cast and I'll bet that most mid depth cranks would have scored fish, it was just the perfect storm with the right color bait for the water color and it made it visible to the fish. Brian Needham Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 I guess I heard something different. Â He caught them early on the DT6 then they moved deeper and he started culling with the livingston since they were moved and the livingston ran deeper (8-10ft) Â he also caught the 6 pounder off the dock on a Yamamoto Chatterbait Quote
Talonman Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 I heard on the Livingston baits that the battery is non-replaceable. When the battery dies in 2 years, the bait is just a standard crank then, with no sound.  I favor the DT4 over the DT6 myself... My DT collection.  Rapala DT 4 Length 2", Weight 5/16 oz, Dive Depth 4 ft, Class Floating - $6.79(1) Color: Ike's Old School(2) Color: Bluegill(2) Color: Yellow Perch(1) Color: Ike's Blue Back Herring(1) Color: Ike's Demon(1) Color: Ike's Smash(2) Color: Parrot  Rapala DT 6 Length 2", Weight 3/8 oz, Dive Depth 6 ft, Class Floating - $6.79(1) Color: Hot MustardRapala DT 10 Length 2.25", Weight 3/5 oz, Dive Depth 10 ft, Class Floating - $6.79(1) Color: Shad Quote

First of all he had a gopro so it was visible he was using a DT6 in Ike's demon. They were big ones too. Then he said he culled 4 fish using the Livingston. Until I see footage of him landing 5 pounders with the Livngston, and not just one, I'm not buying the story. He's no idiot, he knows pro anglers seasons are dependent on their sponsors. He had to help Livingston lure otherwise that would have been the ultimate insult to his sponsor, him winning with a different lure and the way how he won it too on day 3! 1 Quote

We've had threads on here before over this exact topic.  I remember in one of the MLF lesson shows, Ike used a bladed jig for most of his catches.  You could clearly see it was a "chatterbait" style jig.  In the lessons show he plugged the Molix bladed jig.  He didn't even use it in competition.  So when a pro says I used this to catch them, they get the from me now!  I rely on suggestions on this forum or buy and try out baits for myself.  No more going and buying because said pro says to use this lure! 1 Quote

I dont doubt it...... he even said on stage he used the dt6; "cause sometimes we have to use another companies bait to get the job done. " Â I dont think he is going to throw his sponsor under the bus, but at the same time he does not seem like a guy that will striaght out lie either. especially given the fact he already stated the DT6. Â I am probably just too trusting, Howell does seems different though....... I would trust him before I would KVD (call me crazy) Quote
TrapperJ Posted February 24, 2014 Author Posted February 24, 2014 I agree im probably to trusting too, but i am curious, i know LIvignston has had some chatter around them about their new high fangled lures. So it will be interesting to see just how much it played a part. Â Randy doesnt seem like the guy just to say something to say something. I'm gonna say Livingston probably helped, but my guess just not in a huge way, especially since we already know he caught most off the DT6. Â "Well i got this ole Classic in the bag, guess i'll throw this talking bait once or twice for the camera" Â hehe jk Quote

Talonman Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 That means Brandon Palaniuk at Bull Shoals Lake, Arkansas, won $100,000 using Ike's Blue Back Herring...  And now the Classic win on Ike's Demon.  I guess the guy can pick colors... Quote
TrapperJ Posted February 24, 2014 Author Posted February 24, 2014 Ike needs to use his colors instead of giving them out. ha  That video just made me want to buy a DT6 in Ike's Demon. lol  Did i miss the livingston lure? i had to quick skim it for now.  Im a sucker for Classic lures though i still have a few Ugly Otters left, my pond bass love those things.
