Mumbly Posted February 22, 2014 Posted February 22, 2014 I searched the forums before posting but didn't see this question asked so thought I could fire away and hopefully get some help. I open up my spinnerbait box tonight to see if I needed to order anything and i noticed that on some of my older spinnerbaits the rubber ring or collar that holds the skirt on has rotted. They have turned all gooey and sticky. Do you guys just replace the skirt with a new one or can you just replace the "rubber ring/collar"? The skirt itself seems fine. Thanks in advance. Quote
BassAssassin726 Posted February 22, 2014 Posted February 22, 2014 Yea that will happen. I think it's from the moisture from the water after using them. Just do what I do and as soon as you buy a spinnerbait rip off that cheap rubber collar and replace it with some wire. Quote
Dyerbassman Posted February 22, 2014 Posted February 22, 2014 Or replace the rubber ring. They do wear out after a while. Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted February 22, 2014 Super User Posted February 22, 2014 With a simple skirt tool and the desired skirt material making new skirts for replacement on jig & spinner baits is relatively easy. If you retained the old skirts material, you could replace the split collar with a new one. A-Jay http://www.barlowstackle.com/Lunker-skirt-tool.htm 1 Quote
Mumbly Posted February 22, 2014 Author Posted February 22, 2014 Thanks for the info guys. I will snag a skirt tool and collars....also really like the wire idea as well. Thanks for the link A-Jay 1 Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted February 22, 2014 Global Moderator Posted February 22, 2014 I zip-tie all my skirts! Quick and easy fix for those skirts that are falling apart. They even come in some different colors so you can try to match the skirt color a little. 1 Quote

McAlpine Posted February 22, 2014 Posted February 22, 2014 Or, skirts are so cheap you could just get replacements. I always carry a box of spinnerbait skirts. Good to have if the spinnerbait your using is appropriate for the conditions but the color is not what you want for water clarity. Quote

I like the terminator quick skirts too but my absolute favorite are starflash. Quote
Super User Catt Posted February 22, 2014 Super User Posted February 22, 2014 With a small zip-tie I only change skirts every couple yrs. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted February 22, 2014 Super User Posted February 22, 2014 I like the Strike King Perfect Skirts for a quick fix. Quote
Super User WIGuide Posted February 22, 2014 Super User Posted February 22, 2014 You can either use a zip tie or tie them with an extra bit of braid. It's not a bad idea to do that when they're new and then you won't have any issues with them. I prefer to use Terminator Quick Skirts or otherwise Strike King and Northland equivalents. Quote
Mumbly Posted February 23, 2014 Author Posted February 23, 2014 I zip-tie all my skirts! Didn't think of a small zip-tie. Great idea. Thanks Quote

I sent an email to Mr. Jim and he responded that he doesn't ship to Canada so if I go that route I will just have them shipped to a friend in Oklahoma. How do you find them durability wise? Quote

I replace the skirts on new spinnerbaits. I have never had a lure that outlasted the skirt. Quote
