Sweetale Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 Getting ready to bow mount a Humminbird 571 HD DI on an RT178, and was curious as to the best spot to put it: somewhere on the step pad (not ideal, but best location for viewing), or on the carpet to the right of the TM pedal. Thoughts? Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted February 21, 2014 Super User Posted February 21, 2014 I've had them all over the place in the front. I am a constant watcher and when to the starboard side of the deck I got neck cramps fishing from the port side of the boat. The one I have right now is mounted on a ram in front of my recessed trolling motor tray. I like that better than any other way I have tried. Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted February 21, 2014 Super User Posted February 21, 2014 Centered on the bow is the best location for viewing while fishing on either side of the boat. Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted February 21, 2014 Super User Posted February 21, 2014 Here is the layout Since you have the foot pedal tray, the best mount to attach the unit mount to is the KicknBass bridge bracket or similar 1 Quote
Super User WIGuide Posted February 21, 2014 Super User Posted February 21, 2014 Either right in the middle or slightly or put it close to the center on the step Quote
tritondriver Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 I also have the KB bracket and wouldn't trade it as now the finder is out of the way and a great position to view even in the sun.. Quote
basscatcher8 Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 I mounted an elite 7 on RAM mount on my RT188 up on the step opposite from the trolling motor. I mounted it kinda high because I like to pull bouncers for walleye and I have a terrova up front so I want to be able to sit at the console and see the depth at the front of the boat for following contours. basscatcher8 Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 Here is a picture of how I set mine up. I heard KicknBass is working on a mount for the console so hopefully the 998 will move over the wheel eventually. Quote
