The Daiwa Lexa 4.9:1 is only $120 bucks and I have heard it casts lighter baits VERY well, though almost all of my deep divers are 3/8 of an ounce or heavier. But I have heard a few bad reviews of it. My other option is spending $200 for a Lew's BB-1 Pro Series Speed Spool in the 5.1:1 ratio. It seems to have almost no bad reviews where ever I read about it, and it supposedly casts light baits well too. Should I bite the bullet and get the Lew's, or get the Daiwa and save the extra cash for some more lures? 1 Quote

Super User rippin-lips Posted February 20, 2014 Super User Posted February 20, 2014 Just get the regular bb1 and not the pro. It's around $115 or so online. The lexa is not the best choice in the $120 catergory by any means. I'm a fan of daiwa reels too. Quote

I would also suggest the regular bb1 instead of the pro. Honestly though the tatula or the curado G5 would probabily be my reels of choice for this range. He'll take care of you. tell him you're a member. Definitely go with the Pro. Almost an ounce lighter and externally adjustable brakes. Quote

This is only on the 5-1. Seems a lot of oldtimers love this feature on their cranking reel. Gives them a split second longer to let fish inhale the bait deeper maybe? Not sure I would like it or get used to it. Quote

It seems weird when just messing with the reel but once you start fishing with it,it's barely noticeable. Quote
