I used to shoot a bow & arrow. While not any record setter, I was one of the better shooters at the local archery shop where folks used to come to shoot, hang out, and tell stories...ALL of which were true

A younger boy and his brothers started coming to the shop to learn to shoot. I gained a fan in the youngest boy, and he called me shootermcbob...which he explained was because I was such a great archer ( I am NOT, never was)...I would like to think it was because I was nice to the boy and helped him learn to shoot.

Shooter = Archer         Bob is my name.  Not sure where the Mc came from...he was probably a McDonalds fan!!!

I'd say the Mc comes from one of Adam Sandler's movies where one character was named Shooter McGavin.

My name is simple. I started fishing and didn't have very much luck with most lures because I didn't know how to use them. Dad suggested Roostertails, which I though were stupid looking at the time and didn't resemble anything a fish would eat. But I bought a few and tried them. They were cheap baits so I didn't worry about using them or losing them in areas where other lures snagged and broke off. Since I was casting them into brush and bumping rocks with them I started to get bit more often. Soon, I was fishing these more than any other bait. Now, I use other stuff much more but I still always keep one of these tied on. In my tackle bag they get their own box. I always buy them in quantities of 3 per size and color. One for me, one for a friend if I start getting nailed on mine and he isn't, and one for a spare in case one is lost or there is a third guy with us.

I also used to go by the screen name, "the great brown rooster", which was in reference to the pumpkin seed color that was rumored to be so good. They all catch fish but in the beginning I had more confidence in this color than anything else. But I have had a day where color didn't matter, and every time I caught a fish I changed baits to see if I had one that wouldn't work. I went through every color in the box, and back then I had a lot more. Pinks, oranges, purple, and others. Every single color caught a fish that day. They must have just been very aggressive. These were white bass. Since then I've thinned down the selection to just what you see, the primary fishing colors of chartreuse, white, and firetiger, and some naturals such as black, brown, and green, and the blank spots are making room for different sizes of the same colors I already have here. At one time this box had over 100 in it. Bottom row, second from left, is an experimental bait I made from a blue fox blade, a paper clip forming the wire, a glass bead, a treble hook, and a worm sinker I powder coated. Haven't caught a fish on it yet but it casts and retrieves well.

Ugh, so many great stories behind their names.  I seem like an under achiever here.

My first name is Woody, and I like fishing crankbaits.

I hope I didn't ruin any Final Jeopardy answer with that.

Who ever said explaining your screename on Intros has the right idea.  Great thread!!!

Is it just me, or does anybody else feel like they've waited years for a chance to explain their screen name?

When I was a kid, my brother and our friends would frequent the trampoline.  We split up into "trampoline teams", and I guess because we thought we looked funny or something, my team called itself the Flying Monkeys.  It stuck with me, and my first internet username was Flyingmonkie.  I use an "ie" and not "ey" because the correct spelling had already been taken.  It's stuck for almost two decades.

The wife and I have been babysitting for some 14 years and all of those little ones refered to me as PapaJoe. Now my Grandson has picked up the handle and rarely calls me grandpa.  The 222 comes from playing roulette. The first time I played the number two hit three times in a row. Like bassin', I was hooked.

Great thread Hootie. My name came from my stomping days playing college football at BYU as a wide receiver (terrible catching ability i must say though!). I was always a running back throughout high school and junior college and then Bronco Mendenhall tried to convert me to a wide receiver and i was quick, great at football, but horrendous as a wide receiver! It is NOT for everyone at the division one level, much easier to catch the ball in junior college i must say. That's my story and i am sticking to it.  Anywho, i came up with some funny juking moves in the beginning of practice and made funny names for each move such as the shake'n'sheide, the sheidelight, and the shimmy. The shimmy involved a bobble head move that always got the coach yelling at me when i was not taking my warmups seriously. If any of you get bored and want to see a funny song skit i created for Bronco Mendenhall and being on the scout team early on, here is a link. Shake'n'bake

Good story. I'm a BYU grad.

I guess mine is boring. I've been in the magazine business for a long time. Many positions have some type of editor in the title. I'm into bass fishing. It helps that I was the first editor at the magazine BassWest when it launched in the 90s.

Weber is my last name. In college I worked in ski/board/bike shops and literally everyone called me Weber. One day I was walking out of the shop onto the sales floor and my buddy yelled out to stop, another did an MC Hammer spoof "Stop... Webertime" the shop full of customers and staff giggled. Then I did that shuffle dance thing he did in his video and the whole building erupted in laughter. It stuck.

The first new car I owned was a 1968 Rambler.  Had a CB radio in it and needed a handle, (this is the Rambler, KALJ7431 down and on the side).  I've used the name every since then.

Mine came from the 1st "bass boat"? I ever owned. Yes, I know StarCraft didn't make a bass boat at that time (1968), but I didn't care. I made my 16' run-a-bout into to a Cal delta fishing/bass boat. A lot of work went into that boat and had a few of the pros at the time like what they saw. I even fished my 1st few tournaments out of it! We own the 1st ever high school fishing tourney with it. Still have the side name plate off that boat.

As a 32year old I played a lot of video games 20 years ago and one of my favorites was duke nukem. as a spoof I used the screenname of "Duke scrotum" for everything. as this country got more and more sensitive there was a lot of websites/games that were getting offended by the word scrotum so I had to choose a new name.

I was watching a program on the discovery channel about wolves and they kept talking about the alpha male and it stuck.

I got mine from a friend from when I first started to bass fish for two reasons.  1) I didnt have any idea what I was doing and let a LOT of bass swallow the hook before I would set the hook, so a lot of fish died when I pulled the hook out the gullet, and 2) I also ate most of the bass I caught...  so he would call me a fish murderer and 71 is the year I was born.
