It never struck me that people would confuse my handle, but a thread the other day made me realize that some may not know it's my last name.

I know some took it for Coots as in the ducks, and yes, I had a lot of names in school such as Cootiebird etc.

A member of the guards who protected the Roman Caesar were members of what was called the "Praetorian Guard" - the guys guarding the chief. A lot like the Secret Service these days for the POTUS.

I worked on a piece of software recently for a server in our company that was severely critical, and contained the personal information of our clients. Being at the back and last end of that software development, I was the guy who had the last say in whether our security was adequate or not. The codename of the operation to test the security was called "Operation Praetorian" and I thought it sounded cool, so I called named myself (with a few changes).....Preytorien

During the 70s I made custom rods, spinner baits, crank baits, buzz baits, & jigs for several tournament anglers.

Cajun Anglers Tournament Tackle (CATT)

In the early years of the WWW I wrote articles under Catt951, my wife used Catt945.

I want to know SPEEDBEAD.

early I thought he might have been a welder, hence he can lay a bead with quickness..and it would fit with him being from PA ... then I found that not to be true.

Now I am leaning to the rifle/shotgun sight know as a speedbead.

so I think Mr Speedbead. needs to come clear it up for all of us....

I used to be an avid windsurfer and there's a techinque called 'loop'. You jump off of waves and make a flip in the air with your board and sail and land on your board and keep going. I started using this handle when I first sticked one of those. And I have daughters.

Hey but with so many PI's on this site, you sure this is a good idea to tell your stories? jk :toothy12:

My screen name is how it all started for me.  On Christmas Day of 2010, my mother in law got my father in law a $5 fishing game for his wii.  I played it that day and was "hooked" on fishing.  I went the next day to walmart and started buying tackle.  The rest is history.................

Ah no never messed much with any Fedora or CentOS, I never really had the chance to, although the temptation of sticking it to traditional platforms always looks pretty good. Our technical director at one point debated switching to a Linux base, threw around ideas about RedHat, but never went anywhere with it. The company I worked for had a president that was a man obsessed with Mac. So one day we came in and had all new MacBook Pros and dual Thunderbolt monitors. It was a sweet gig. Where I work now (and insurance company) uses all PC, but our division - mobile security platforms for agents, uses all Mac, so we're kind of the black sheep. Things move slowly there, so exploring alternative ideas outside of the Mac/PC box ain't gonna happen!

At the age of 67, I have Long been named Mike.  Also, when measured horizontally, I am fairly Long, at 6'3".  The name has nothing to do with any of my appendages, as some might think.

the ww2 is in referance to a few things..........my granfather on my dad's side was a navy vet of WW2,  my grandmothers brother on my mom's side was an army combat vet of the ETO. I also collect any, and everything related to the the US armed forces during WW2........uniforms, field gear, weapons, etc......for many years I also traveled the eastern part of the country doing WW2 living history events for public education. The group I belonged to is one of the few in the US that is fully sanctioned and reconized by the Veterens association of the unit they represent..........the 5th Ranger Infantry Btn. I am no longer activly envolved, it's too time consuming with the travel,  it's mega expensive, and I have kind of gotten a little long in both the tooth and waist line to accuratly look the part, but I pop in to a few of the local events they do from time to time and make a fool out of myself............and the farmer..........well that's what I do. I should change it to trucker though, as it seems I do more truck driving than farming now a days.

That sounds awesome I do a lot of war collecting myself. Narrowing down the collection myself. I also know ww2 vets and i cant see your pic on my phone so you could be 16-90 haha cant tell.

Great thread Hootie. My name came from my stomping days playing college football at BYU as a wide receiver (terrible catching ability i must say though!). I was always a running back throughout high school and junior college and then Bronco Mendenhall tried to convert me to a wide receiver and i was quick, great at football, but horrendous as a wide receiver! It is NOT for everyone at the division one level, much easier to catch the ball in junior college i must say. That's my story and i am sticking to it.  Anywho, i came up with some funny juking moves in the beginning of practice and made funny names for each move such as the shake'n'sheide, the sheidelight, and the shimmy. The shimmy involved a bobble head move that always got the coach yelling at me when i was not taking my warmups seriously. If any of you get bored and want to see a funny song skit i created for Bronco Mendenhall and being on the scout team early on, here is a link. Shake'n'bake

Snakehead Whisperer is a nickname that I received here in the DC area after catching my age (34 at the time) in snakeheads in one summer. As of late the name should be more like Smallmouth Wisherer (dreaming of Dwight status.)

POSIX guy checking in. Debian, Slack and BSD here. I lived in BeOS, IRIX, Solaris and RedHat for much of the 90's. And I use vi and ed, if you catch my drift ;)
