You won't find these at bass pro. There hand made by a guy in California. Also there not the easiest baits to get a hold of because they are very popular, and since he hand makes them supply and demand can't always be met. On a side not I just picked up a jackall Mikey Jr. that I expect to perform pretty good. Here's the link to 3:16 if your interested. http://www.316lurecompany.com/baits/wakejr.html Quote
EastTexasBassin Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 LC RC wakebait in pearl/purple For the 0 to 12 inches range, its hard to beat the bandit footloose. Once I got some of these, I took my Mann's -1's out of my tackle bag. They have been replaced. The footloose has a much better action and it outfishes the -1 every time. (for me) The ragetail eeliminator is a great bait for fishing just under the surface as well. Especially when the fish want something a bit slower or if there's grass/pads around. Quote
JamesH Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 You will not be disappointed in the Footloose. Me and a friend member here (we are from Indiana too) KILLED them this past fall on the Footloose. The fish couldn't get enough. Tiny bait that was bringing in big fish. The thing to realize is they are not a true wake bait they will run any where from 6" to 1.5' depending on the retrieve. BUT they are still deadly. This past fall was the first time using it. But assuming it will be just as effective pre-spawn. One of my first fish on this thing came out of the water to get it. I was at the end of my retrieve and pulling the lure out of the water and SPLASH. Yeah I'm standing there with a fish on, it took my be surprise I didn't know what to do. I was thinking I can't sit this fish down he is fresh and will flop off. Anyway, has to be the easy fish caught ever. Quote
Gangley Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 Though not a true wake bait, it sits at the top of the water column and depending upon retrieve, you can make it wake........Bomber Model B....it has been good to me. Caught 2 doubles back to back with it. Quote
scbassin Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 A couple of good ones are the Jackall Sride 95 or 125 in the Ayu color Quote
Crankhead Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 A guess I need some info because I've tried LC wake baits in the past and had zero luck...not even a strike. So maybe if you could tell me how you use them, what conditions are best...type of water they'll work the best and what rod/reel.line set up you use. I'd really like to learn when is the best time to try them & how much success you've had with them. Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted January 13, 2011 Super User Posted January 13, 2011 My very favorite wake bait is the RC 1.5 in MJ chrome golden shiner. Its a lucky craft sold exclusively at bass pro shops. Quote
bassin is addicting Posted January 14, 2011 Author Posted January 14, 2011 thanks for the input.. those 3:16's and black dog look sweet but out of my price range :'( the footloose i got is pearl/blue back. i haven't seen the xcalibur wake ( i do like their new silent 3ft runner), i'll check out the RC LC 1.5 this weekend too. Revo_Carrot Stix Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 Bass Pro Shops XPS Lazer Eye Nitro Extreme The Egg in Chrome Shad X2 in Firetiger. According to Mr. Clunn, "rod tip down in the water and crank as fast as you can." I tried this last year in the middle of summer and it was almost dark. Water was like glass and nothing had worked at all that evening. Last ditch effort and I was catching bass on almost every cast before calling it quits because it was dark. Quote
Primus Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 Another good one that hasn't been mentioned yet is the Excalibur Wake crank, great bait around shallow grass. As already been mentioned the RC Wake crank is another great choice. I just got the 3:16 wake baits and will be testing them out next year so I can't comment on those lures yet. I also have a Matt Lures floating HardBass that I'm looking forward to fishing. Quote
Fish Chris Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 The 9" MS Slammer. Okay, so it looks like a piece of broomstick, with hooks hanging off of it..... but the fish absolutely hammer this thing...... and I don't care if your fish are smaller, forget the 7".... and even if your fish are HUGE, forget the 11". The 9" is far an above, the most effective. Color smuller...... I'm not a real big believer in color with most lures anyway, but with a top water wake bait, color is far less important yet. From underneath, a wake bait just looks shadowed anyway. Oh and hey, I have a 3:16 JR.... really expensive, and they look really pretty, but I find my cheap, ugly, MS Slammer to be WAAAY more effective. Do you want a lure that catches fish ? ... or fishermen ? Peace, Fish Quote
Nick Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 First, the fellows that don't like the Mann's 1 minus. Send 'em to me. They don't wake as much as go a few inches deep. We catch them good on these esp. in the baby size. Next, don't waste money on the Megabass Anthrax. What wuz I thinkin? You might want to read my post on boiling model A Bombers. I'm serious about this. Last, Bagley made a Bulgin B which nearly vibrated the rod out of my hand and caught them good until the bait was torn up. And the search goes on.... problem is the swim jig is often an overall better lure selection. Quote
