AZfishrman01 Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Fellas, I'm looking to replace the stock hooks and split rings that have come on the Smithwick Suspending Rattlin Rogues. I know the hooks come in a size 6 so no worries there. In terms of split rings, does anyone know what size Smithwick uses? From what I've tried to dig up, it seems most of the bass lures on the market use size 2 split rings. Also, any specific brand/style of split ring and hooks that I should keep an eye out for? Thanks in advance. -Alan Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted February 20, 2014 Super User Posted February 20, 2014 you can use any split ring as long as it isn't a light wire ring. I use Worth split rings and I know others like the Owner hyper wire which are really good but in my opinion they are overkill. If you go to Tackle Warehouse you will see the Danielson split rings, I just got some, last season I watched my fishing partner land a 23lb musky, and countless ball of a Yo-Zuri 3D minnow that was beat up and he replaced the hooks with Gammy round bends and he put new Danielson split rings on and they are just like new. Yes, size 2 but for the line tie you may want the oval tie, and another tid bit, I replace the hooks on my Rattlin' Rogues but I use the original split rings, they aren't bad, in fact the only ones I ever replaced were on the RC STX from Lucky Strike, those are light wire rings. 1 Quote

Comfortably Numb Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 Be careful of the weight of split rings and hooks you change on any suspending bait. Quote
