Super User Jrob78 Posted February 21, 2014 Super User Posted February 21, 2014 I showed everyone in my house and they all thought it was a real live trout. Impressive. Never fished a swim bait. I have a couple I'm going to use this year. If they work out for me I may invest the 30.00 on one of these. Heck I could see having pool parts tying up a weight on it instead of a hook and trying to fool people by tying it to like a 3lb test on the little dock demon pole my 4 yr old uses see if I could trick some people. So if it didn't catch fish I may be able to pull a prank or two haha They are actually $17.99, so you can get 2. It looks like Monster Tackle has some of the Dark Trout color in stock. Quote
mnbassman23 Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 Maybe I just got a bum deal on one. The second section of mine just shredded. I mean, literally, it was holding by a thread. The mesh almost seemed like it never even got seated in the plastic and tore free at the joint really quickly. The other thing, too, is that the "line through" portion of the bait seemed to wear very quickly. The nose was torn after just one fish. It should have been adeqaute to pop the treble free and let the bait slide up, yet it didn't seem to do that. It seemed like the hook wouldn't pop out of the slot until after a couple head shakes and by that time, the damage was done. What I will say, though, is the bait swims better than almost anything I've ever thrown. It's extremely realistic in the water, and it moves really, really well. I definitely like the way the bait swims and the sink rate. Thanks for the response Hooligan. What sink rate did you get and can you compare it to a hudd rof? Quote
Super User Hooligan Posted February 21, 2014 Super User Posted February 21, 2014 Hooli, Can you post a pic of the bait so we can see what you're talking about? I was also really excited to get one of these. I don't have any pictures of the bait, sorry. Quote
Super User Hooligan Posted February 21, 2014 Super User Posted February 21, 2014 Thanks for the response Hooligan. What sink rate did you get and can you compare it to a hudd rof? The SS. I'd have to say that it's pretty similar to the ROF5 8" Hudd. It might be just a little off of that fall rate, but it's very close. You know how some Hudds will sink just a touch slower, and some will be just a wee faster? I get the sense that the Savage Gear baits are a little like that. I've talked to other guys that have fished several of them side by side and thrown out there that the sink rate is a little bit variable in the SS. I didn't spend any time throwing the S at all, so I can't really compare it. 1 Quote

I always have multiple tabs open and last night was researching antique baits so I must have gotten confused. Guess I'll have to get one next week. Quote
Salamander12 Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 Do people fish this bait in waters that don't hold trout? Im interested but where I fish there aren't trout for the bass to feed on. Thanks. Quote

BaconStealer303 Posted February 22, 2014 Posted February 22, 2014 Wish there was a 5 or 6 inch version for our northern lakes Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted February 23, 2014 Global Moderator Posted February 23, 2014 Wish there was a 5 or 6 inch version for our northern lakes You think your fish don't eat big baits?? I live in Kansas, I'm sure you've heard of the terrific bass fishing here Still, I fish 7-8 baits and regularly catch fish, it doesn't take a big fish to attack a big bait. It's especially true if you fish where there's smallmouth. This fish wasn't even 4 pounds and about swallowed my 8" Hudd. and I've caught a bunch of bass on my 7" Slammer that weren't much bigger than the bait. but then one of the fish you're looking for will blast the thing and you remember why you're tossing big baits 1 Quote
fishinthedacks Posted February 23, 2014 Posted February 23, 2014 I read a study that predatory fish like bass will attack fish 3/4 of its size. Those pics proved it. Quote
