m1garandman Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 New to this forum and am looking for some help in picking up a new bass rod. I currently have $250 on a bass pro gift card to spend on this. I know most won't agree that there is one rod to cover all aspects of bass fishing, but I am looking for one that is the closest to being all around. I have a 3000 Shimano CI4 to put on the rod. The CI4 was previously on a G Loomis shaky head rod, but I returned that because I just didn't like the action of the tip on that rod all that much. I am looking to get another G Loomis in around a 6'6 to a 7' length with preferably medium light power. How are megabass rods as well? My brother raves about them, but I always loved loomis'. I do mainly smallmouth river fishing with jigs, but also hit up largemouth ponds with topwater quite often as well. Would like a rod that performs well in both situations. How are the bronze back and mossyback series? Quote
doyle8218 Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 Daiwa Tatula 6'10" MH F. Outstanding all around rod. Quote
Super User Jrob78 Posted February 19, 2014 Super User Posted February 19, 2014 Daiwa Tatula 6'10" MH F. Outstanding all around rod. He's talking about spinning rods. Quote
EvanT123 Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 Don't know much about megabass. You could look in the loomis spin jig line. Imx 782 or 783. It looks like there is a new line coming out you might be able to get the older ones at a discount. Quote
Super User tomustang Posted February 19, 2014 Super User Posted February 19, 2014 TBC610MLXF legend tournament, one bad butt all around stick Quote
m1garandman Posted February 19, 2014 Author Posted February 19, 2014 Yes, should have specified that it is spinning. I will have to check out this St. Croix rods. I had some problem with guides on some lower priced st croix rods in the past, so am a little wary. Are they still made in the US? I would love to pick up an IMX, but for whatever reason, basspro doesn't list them on their website. Quote

How are the bronze back and mossyback series? You aren't going to find an all around bass rod that is ML. I would go with a 7ft M fast for an all around rod that will do most finesse applications. Using a ml is going to decrease the types of topwater baits you can throw as well. I would go with the st croix avid AVS70MF or AVS70MLF if you want that ML. Put the rest towards baits or new line. Super User J Francho Posted February 19, 2014 Super User Posted February 19, 2014 I'd be looking at a 7' M/F rod. Can't go wrong with an Avid - I've got a dozen of them. Quote
drodriguez Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 If your lookin for a "one size fits most" kind of rod, id look into gettin an Abu Garcia Vendetta. Pair it with an Abu Garcia Revo and your in business. Make sure its a MH. You can throw jigs, plastics, and spinnerbaits with this rod. MH F around 6'10" to 7'. Remember. When spending money, if your going to put it into anything put it in the reel. It does most the work. Quote
Missourifishin Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 Another vote for the 7' MF Avid Quote
EvanT123 Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 If you like river fishing go with the stcroix medium light. Quote
Super User lmbfisherman Posted February 19, 2014 Super User Posted February 19, 2014 I would definitely say go find a 7' M/F rod for an all around spinning stick. Quote
