cddan Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 How do you use a shakey head, what heads and plastics? Why isnt a regular jig head the same as a shakey head? How and where do you use them? Can a regular round jig head be used the same way? Quote
Got1Fishing Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 I really like Dave's tournament Tackle shake heads in Jamestown NC and Missile Baits Warlock shaky heads. I chose them over using a jig because the shay heads I buy have a screw lock to hold the plastics. My preferred plastics are Missile Baits Fuse 4.4, Baby D Bomb and any worm without salt. Quote
wisconsin heat Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 Can a regular round jig head be used the same way? Yes, they can be, but shakey heads generally come with larger sized hooks to texas rig the plastic (usually a 4-7 inch straight tail worm). Regular round ball head jigs usually used for walleye and such could work, but I wouldn't texas rig it because of the small hook. If you were to thread the worm on with an exposed hook, they could work well, but would be less weedless. 1 Quote
WdyCrankbait Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 Are there Tungsten shakey jig heads out there? I am sure there are, but not yet found them. Quote
Knightiac Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 I like the Strike King roundball jighead as a shakeyhead. The hook is plenty long. It really stands the worm up and does a hell of a job putting it in the bass' face. I prefer the Berkley Bottom Hoppers. You can use a shakey head many different ways but I usually use it two different ways: 1. I just hop it back to me. It will bounce a great deal and the head will keep the tail standing. The great thing about the bottom hopper is the bigger tail, it really exaggerates any extra movement. 2. The typical way to fish a shakeyhead, on a spinning rod and fish it slower. Get the bait in the desired area, and you literally shake your rod. This causes the worm to just shake in place barely moving. I use this when the bite is very slow, otherwise I like hopping it back to me. The biggest drawback with the shakeyhead is vegetation. If you're fishing a place with a ton of grass or algae, you will be pulling up salad all day long. Quote

Super User Raul Posted February 19, 2014 Super User Posted February 19, 2014 I´ve used a regular, common, ordinary just a little bit doctored jighead mold for more than 20 years to pour my own "shakey head jigs", that way I can choose hook size & weight combination I want which is usually not found commercially available, I keep using 90° angle hooks, so yes an "ordinary" jighead can serve as a "shakeyhead". I´ve been thinking about getting me a "shakeyhead" mold ( different hooks than 90° ) but the truth is I see no real need to do so, BTW, I´ve purchased commercial shakeyheads and I swear I don´t see any difference in the catch ratio between Raul´s own brand and commercial brands of shakeyheads. drodriguez Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 I like 1/8th oz standup type owner hooks used with zman straight tail worms. I can't remember exactly what there called. If you stretch them out a few times to get the salt off they float with the tail up. Problems I've had with the trick worms is its luck of the draw. Not all of them float. The original can, but there's no way to tell without stickin em in your mouth.(checking for salt)heartburn. Yuck. Zman or strike king zeros are the best. Quote
Alpha Male Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 I just bought some megastrike shakey2 pro shakeyhead jigs. They are near perfect. I have only put them in the bath tub but they always stand up. I will be using a z-man finesse worm or rage anaconda. Quote

Super User ww2farmer Posted February 21, 2014 Super User Posted February 21, 2014 My favorite shaky head of the moment is the VMC "Ike approved" Rugby heads. I hate screw lock types, and I am not a big fan of the giant barbs on other hooks. The Rugby head has a EWG hook and you just t-rig the baits on them like you would any hook. The head stands the baits up well, comes through rock/wood/dock great.......and fishes decent in grass, which in the past was a not a strong suit of other heads I tried. Some people (not me) think you need floating baits to shaky head, I'll stick to the stuff I use( zoom trick/finesse worms most of the time)....it's been known to entice a fish or two hundreds of thousands. martintheduck Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 Are there Tungsten shakey jig heads out there? I am sure there are, but not yet found them. Yep -- Picasso Tungsten Takedown. I just throw Picasso Shakedown's.... I don't know what they do to them, but they are the most sensitive non-tungsten weights/heads I've thrown. Love em'. Quote
tbone1993 Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 Buying 30+ jigs from the owner of Custom Cast jigs. Great products and great owner. They can be found at presely outdoors, prairie outfitters bedford sales, and even that dreadful T W website LOL. Quote
