bmac31 Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 Im just starting to learn to throw a baitcaster and I dont want to spend much money. Ive got a decent older shamano baitcaster and I have a spin casting pole. Was wondering if pairing the two together was a problem? Thanks guys Quote
masterbass Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 Most spincast rods are light or ultra lite. You might be able to use it for light cranks or weightless plastics, but throwing that stuff is tricky if you're new to baitcasters. You'll probably backlash a bit because you need more weight. There are some decent inexpensive rods out there. Get a mh rod. Quote
Super User WIGuide Posted February 18, 2014 Super User Posted February 18, 2014 I'd suggest buying a cheap rod with a little heavier action. I know you're not wanting to fork out some cash for something you're unsure of, but I have a feeling you're setting yourself up for failure. I'd suggest you get either a Berkley Amp rod or a Berkley Lightning rod. They are both inexpensive, so if you don't like it you aren't really out anything, but if you find out you like using a baitcaster you won't mind using it because it won't just be junk. Quote
ClackerBuzz Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 dang i thought i was cheap. (just to prove it i'll confess i wash and re-use zip lock baggies). WIGuide nailed it. buy a $30-40 MH baitcast rod. shoot me a PM and i'll send you some braid to put on it. braid is very easy to pick out during a back lash and will make learning a bc much more enjoyable. 1 Quote
Super User MCS Posted February 18, 2014 Super User Posted February 18, 2014 X2 about the rod and braid. You can get a casting rod for 30-40 I have a lightning rod and it is as good as rods two or three times the price. Clacker is a cool dude for his offer. Tip of the cap to you sir. Quote
Hyrule Bass Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 actually i have my two round abu baitcasters on old spincast rods i had sitting around. they work just fine. theyre not lightweight rods though, one is a 6'6MH and the other is a 7'MH. Quote
Super User Raul Posted February 18, 2014 Super User Posted February 18, 2014 My friend, there are three type of rods: 1.- Casting 2.- Trigger 3.- Spinning There´s no such thing as a spin casting rod, casting and trigger rod reel seats are for baitcast and spincast reels. What´s the difference between a casting and a trigger rod ? The handle, casting rods have what is commonly refered as a "pistol grip" while trigger rods have a longer straight handle. So, to answer your question, there´s no problem when you pair a bc reel on a rod which is designed for it. Quote
