Zeeso Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 I have both in my shopping cart. But there are two bait monkeys in each one of my ears. Left ear is saying, spend the extra money get the tournament, its on sale. Thw other one is telling me to save the money, get the standard Lews. I know both are beasts, I usually purchase 100$ reels. Im thinking I spend the extra 15$ (sale price) and see if I'm missing out on anything. Help me make up my mind! Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted February 18, 2014 Super User Posted February 18, 2014 CaptBob is a huge fan of Lews reels. I believe his suggestion is to upgrade to one with dual brakes. That would be the $150 reel. It also has a little more powerful drag. Mine is the Tournament Pro. Very nice reel. Unfortunately a grandson determined shortly after I got the reel that it was his reel, so I haven't spent a lot of time with it. 1 Quote
Cgrinder Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 I am surprised that the Monkeys have not joined forces to get you to buy both reels. Quote
Brian Needham Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 for the 100th time......lmao............ you can buy Lews TP for $130 or less everyday all day if you look around. I have all TPs and have yet to pay more than $128 for any of them. Quote

I have all TPs and have yet to pay more than $128 for any of them. The monkeys have no such patience, they won't allow it. They both have whispered threats into my ear, my fingers are dangling dangerously close to the purchase button and they will not allow me to start my search over again. If I do, then the horrific atrocities that they have whispered in my ears will be carried out. I think I'm gonna with the tournament, its only about 115 right now. Cheaper Lews monkey is going to be upset with me. Ill have to come to some sort of compromise with him. Quote
Zeeso Posted February 18, 2014 Author Posted February 18, 2014 I am surprised that the Monkeys have not joined forces to get you to buy both reels. After careful negotiations with cheaper lews monkey. We struck a deal, ill purchase the tournament now, i have to carry around his bananas for 2 weeks then I have to get the other reel. I told him that is acceptable (I probably won't be fishing at all in the next two weeks but he doesn't know that, so his bananas stunt won't have much affect) but don't tell him that. I shiver at the thought of what he mught make me purchase if he finds out. Quote
Brian Needham Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 if you got my PM in time, you could have had a TP for $133 shipped! the TP is SOOOOOOOOOO much better of a reel than the tournament , IMO Quote

I have to say this is some prtty solid advice,,,,That TP is a great general purpose reel!! The Tournament is probably the reel you are refearing to, with dual breaking, a good reel like 2bc4 said, the TP is a little lighter uses a better main gear, and a little better spool for really light lures like weightless plastics, over the tournament. You will be pleasently surprised at the performance with either one,,,,,enjoy!! Quote
rbreedi1 Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 Ive got the tournament pros and love them Quote
Arv Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 The tournament is a nice reel and you definitely got a good deal on one. But if you have the opportunity down the road, try and pick up a tp Quote
Brian Needham Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 Man...If I hadnt just picked up the tournament for 80$ like new I would junp on that, but I needed a cheaper reel. thats a very solid price! thats basically what I sold mine for a few years ago when I made the jump to TPs. here is the limits I use if a guy was going to get Lews. do not pay more than this: SS: $70 tournamnet : $85-90 TP: $130 Quote
ColdSVT Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 Just get rhe TP...its impossible to beat that reel for less than 150. I love mine...and im gonna have another one! 1 Quote

How do those Lew's reels at those prices compare to the Curado 200G at $100? I don't have any familiarity with any but I've read great reviews on the Lew's stuff, and I hear of anglers that love Curados. I currently use Ambassadeurs and BPS Pro Qualifiers, and want to add to my arsenal. Any advice will help. Quote
