I was looking into buying a Tatula for throwing texas rigs 1/4-3/8.  I was looking for a 7'2 MH Fast, but all im seeing is "R"? What does the R mean? I have never seen this before.

It stands for "regular," which is Daiwanese for mod fast to fast. Not a parabolic taper like cranking stick, but not an extra fast either. I handled a few this weekend. I'd call them "fast."

I haven't quite figured out the logic of the Tatula rod offerings. Doesn't seem to really be a rod there for light- to medium-weight T-rigs.  Closest thing seems to be the 7'1" MH-XF.  No MH-F or even M-F or M-XF.  Perhaps they will expand the line in time

I have the 7'7" medium-"regular" or "reaction" or whatever the "R" stands for  (TAT771MRB).  For sure it fishes like a reaction rod.  May not be a true moderate...but it isn't more than a moderate fast.  It IS a well constructed, sensitive, attractive rod that suits my needs nicely...

I bet that model will send a rattle bait into orbit goose. Im waiting for the 7' Med spinning rod to arrive myself. Went with the M sight unseen as I'd seen ML daiwa spinning rods be more on the "light" side (1st gen cielo when they were high end). After I ordered it I got to handle the ML tatula and it feels stouter than I expected. So I hope the medium isnt too much rod for my needs.

I guess my fondness for lipless cranks is well known.  That's EXACTLY what I got this combo for... ;)

I hope your spinning rod works well

I have the 7' M spinning rod. It's slightly overpowered for dropshots and shaky heads, but would make a really good weightless plastics rod; like 4" senkos and the like. It has a fairly light tip, but it's not flimsy by any means.

The 7-1 MHXF is about the only in the line that really is a good plastics/jig stick.  I REALLY like the taper on that rod.

Is that. 6.3.1 type r? I was looking at that 7ft7 for lip less square bills and spinner baits please let us know how it fishes if you had or have a chance. With 4ft off snow here in nw ohio I won't be bass fishing anytime soon lol we just got 5 more inches last night. But anyways definitely let us know on that rod.

I hope your spinning rod works well

It's too bad they didn't release a heavier 7'7 version, I wanted to get my first Tatula rod at the BPS rod trade in...I am in need of a deep cranking rod and possibly to double as a heavier rattle trap rod for ripping in the weeds.  I guess I'll be saving a few bucks by buying a BPS cranking stick instead.

Been looking at that one. Is this a St Croix MH or a Loomis MH. I've read too many conflicting reports, and nobody in my immediate area has one in stock.

It's smack in between them, Ghoti.  It's not as light as a Loomis MH, but not heavy as a St Croix.  It's more in line with what Daiwa has traditionally done, I'd say.  You remember the old Heartland S series of rod?  Those were as close to a true MH as I relate to, and these are very similar to that line.

Thanks Hooligan; that's what I needed to know. I have a MH-XF LTB, and don't really need another. Something a bit lighter in power would fit in my line-up nicely.

Been looking at KLX rods as well. You wouldn't have one or two of those you could evaluate would you? I'm looking some something close to MH power, with a more moderate action, and some of the KLX series seem to fit the bill. But again, I've seen too many conflicting reports to be able to pull the trigger.

The Kistler line is about the only one that I've spent very, very little time with.  Most of what I have spent time with in that, too, is the Zbone.  What time I have spent with Kistlers outside of the ZBone, I've found that they do tend to be a little more moderate in feel than others in the same class.  As far as being close to the actual action, again, they're a little light, typically.

Yes - the Tat R is a 6.3.  Got it and the Tat rod during the recent TW sale.

Due to winter weather, I've only got about 30 minutes on the water with this combo. My impression is that this 7'7" medium-r is a great open water lipless crank rod for 1/2 and 5/8oz and would work fine for shallow- and mid-depth cranking. Not sure I would want to use with a lipless over grass unless I was using braid (which I'm not).  I also think there are probably better options for square bills.   Also not the best choice for deep cranking a heavy bait (MH for that I would think).

This rod and the Tat reel certainly can chuck the bait out there a LONG way though... ;)

I never knew it was more of a fast action since their true cranking rod like the ballistic and steez flexlite is also labeled regular taper.

I have been wondering why they didn't make a Medium Fast rod since I need one for Senkos/flukes to be paired with my T3. Maybe I should look into their 7' Medium Regular rod if it's more of a fast. I will also use it for 1/4 inline spinners for small mouths so a little less than a true fast may work too. Hummmmmmm

Well, now I'm wondering if I was mixed up and had a different taper in my hand. I played with a lot of rods that day. Sounds like the R action is a bit slower.
