$150 Bottom Contact Rod

You can get an *** for $75 and have a more sensitive rod than the GL2. Or buy a Tatula rod for full price and still beat it. I wouldn't pay more than $100 for another GL2.

 

I beg the differ, you are not going to find a more sensitive rod than GL2 at $150 range. I have fished many different rods which included ***, there is no way *** is better. I purchased *** from BPS last year, and used it for like than 2 weeks. 5th guide completely came off during a hook set, and tip of the is very thin and probably will break off if you set the hook hard. If you are spending 250+, then there are other choices that's better than GL2.

St. Croix Rage is right at the $150 price point and will be the most sensitive for your application. However the handle on that rod takes some getting used too and that's its only downfall.

BPS doesn't carry *** rods as far as I know.. ?

Sounds like you got a lemon or something. I used a MH *** for frogging last summer and I was impressed by the rod's power and durability. It handled my Bill Dance hooksets quite well.

I paid $136 for my GL2 and still was disappointed with the sensitivity, weight, and cheap components. There's easily 3-4 rods in that price range I'd rather buy, including the ***. I haven't had any issues with the ***, whether I set the hook hard or not.

Add me on the list for not impressed with the GL2. Had a jig and worm and sold it. Was ok in sensitive department but blank didn't feel as crisps as an ***, Recon1, and Cumura gen1. I only kept my GL2 cranking rod. Plus the TW sale on those rep sample is complete BS. Rep samples are always 20-40% off. They marked rep samples back up to msrp and gave you a 25% discount? It should be rep sample discount plus the 25% discount, otherwise don't even include it in the bassmaster classic sale. If you research enough even the loyal Gloomis guys don't like the GL2's.

Ah you caught that as well. I looked at the rep cumaras and the same, full price then discount. Ive seen them do this on Quantum Smoke rods too. They were always $129 then when they had 20% off sale bumped the price up to $159 then get discount, after sale back to $129

 

So Ill add the Smoke rod 3.4oz, 7' M/F 1/4-3/4 lure rating  to list of extremely light well balanced very sensitive $150 range rods

BPS doesn't carry *** rods as far as I know.. ?

 

Local BPS carried *** for less than 3 months last year, and never saw it back on the shelf again.

I really wanted to like the GL2, I love the new handle and I like the ACS reel seat but it was heavier and used cheaper guides than most rods from $80 and up and aluminum oxide guides are fine for bass fishing but not on a rod that was almost $200 retail. The GL2 would be a decent rod for $100 but at $150 there are a ton of options and you really can't go wrong with any of them.
