The Fisher Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 I would appreciate opinions and suggestions for a spinning rod to throw shallow (1-3') crankbaits. For instance, Bomber Square A, Mann's Baby 1, Rapala DT Fat, etc. I was thinking 6'10"-7' medium/fast. Quote
DatBass Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 Because spinning rods are more for finesse, id go even shorter. Ihave a crappie maxx thats 6' medium light if you want it for cheap Quote

Cgrinder Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 Probably Medium/Mod-Fast. 6'10" would sound about right to me, but I'm on the tall side. Maybe a light braid, 4-6 lb. diameter. I don't imagine that you're going to be attacking any sort of serious cover here. I would probably throw the cranks you mentioned on a lighter casting rod, but that's just my preference. Quote

Super User WIGuide Posted February 17, 2014 Super User Posted February 17, 2014 I'd suggest a St. Croix Mojo Bass. They've got a 7' M/F and their lure weights cover the range of baits you plan on throwing with it. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted February 17, 2014 Super User Posted February 17, 2014 I use nothing but spinning gear, I can use the same rod for bass as well as snook, quite often I do. To me it doesn't make any difference if I'm throwing a weightless fluke, senko, spoon, jerkbait, crankbait or whatever. These terms finesse and power are not in my fishing vocabulary, I fish my lure the way I think it should worked and I don't pay too much attention from one rod to another. That said, my rod selection is dependent on the water I'm fishing, if it's open with minimal vegetation, it's a lighter rod, thick slop and I fish a rod with more backbone. My lures are pretty much the same with whatever rod I'm using. Quote
