Takemetothebank Posted May 16, 2022 Posted May 16, 2022 Hey guys i use a 6’9” medium fast action rod that is in between a fast and med fast it allows me to work twitch style baits like the vision 110 and shadow rap softly enough to get the to almost walk back and forth out also put enough butt into bit fat rip baits like the Kvd jerk bait I like mono because it gives me a little stretch when they jump or when your trying to land them with 9 hooks in the mouth your trying to grab this combo works really well for my for all types of jerkbaits except the tiny ones that I don’t really use much anyhow Quote

Super User ATA Posted May 16, 2022 Super User Posted May 16, 2022 Fluoro and lowest lb test you can get away with it if floating, If suspending and slow sinking you can get away with mono. I personally use 10lb fluorocarbon Tatsu for all my jerjbaits. Quote
rangerjockey Posted May 17, 2022 Posted May 17, 2022 After 40 years of fishing stickbaits I've come to the conclusion that it doesn't matter much. Back in the day we fished them on the old salt water Trilene. Whatever suits your style. KVD fishes a stickbait faster than anyone I've ever seen so the bait isn't sitting still long enough for the flouro to pull the nose down. For whatever it's worth, the guy who is known for being one of, if not the best stickbait fisherman around here and a heck of a guide in the Table Rock/ Bull Shoals area throws them on 10lb. Invisx. The light flouro deal got started in a effort to get the 110's deeper. Now with the +1 and +2 ect. there's no need to take the chance IMHO. Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted May 17, 2022 Super User Posted May 17, 2022 Always mono for me. Fluoro is not worth the inherent headaches for me. I prefer using braid with mono leader for achieving better depth & faster inputs while working the bait. 1 Quote
BlakeMolone Posted May 17, 2022 Posted May 17, 2022 8-10lb big game. I never break fish off and they basically never throw the hook. 3 Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted May 17, 2022 Super User Posted May 17, 2022 I'm gonna be the weird one My jerkbait rig is spooled with 8# YZH - low stretch (based on FryDog's testing), neutral buoyancy (based on my observations), and stronger than what's printed on the label (based on IFGA testing) 1 Quote
Super User the reel ess Posted May 17, 2022 Super User Posted May 17, 2022 I use braid main line with a mono leader on a medium spinning rod. But I'm not trying to get the bait deep. It would probably be smarter for me to use mono, but I want to use the same rod for some single hook presentations. On 2/16/2014 at 6:43 PM, NathanW said: Mike McClelland uses mono. Said he had the worst jerkbait season ever one year when he switched to fluoro. I use Flouro 10# redlable. It's got some stretch to it but is still pretty durable as long as it's somewhat fresh. I probably would use mono if lc pointers were cheaper because mono doesn't hold up well around rocky bottoms and we've got tons of rock in our lakes. I didn't do well with flouro when I first tried it. it seems like the middle ground between mono and braid, except it sinks. I usually fish shallow, weedy places. Quote
Super User WRB Posted May 17, 2022 Super User Posted May 17, 2022 If you fish a jerk bait slowly with longer pauses the slack FC can snag the front hook. Lone more time FC has less coefficient of drag in the water creating less underwater bow in the line then equal diameter mono or Copolymer line. When you straighten out the bow it feels like the line is stretching, it’s not. Tom Quote
