Garret88 Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 As the title says, I'm going to be using spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, chatterbaits, and swimjigs on one of my setups. What line would be best for overall? I was thinking like a 17# mono. My rod is a 7ft MH/F St croix Mojo bass. Quote
hawghunters Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 I opt to using floro for that application because of its abrasion resistance, but I don't mind 17lb mono either. I like the stretch in mono for those applications because of a little more delayed hook set. However if I'm in any sorta cover I like the abrasion resistance and less stretch. 1 Quote
Nick49 Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 I think you have a good setup. I use two setups for these baits (except for the swim jig), with the only difference being rod length. I use a shorter rod for throwing around and behind docks. With both setups I use 30 lb moss green Power Pro braid with three feet of 17 lb mono leader. Quote
OkeechobeeAngler Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 Straight 20~30lb power pro. 1 Quote

Yeah, the mono is more for the stretch to let the fish take the moving baits in a bit deeper before hookset. I think you have a good setup. Yeah, I know the swim jig is kind of the odd man out in that setup, but I dont have a designated setup for it yet, so this is the best I can do for now. I don't use swimjigs a lot so its more for the bladed baits. Quote
revo4life Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 20lb mono, that is what i use for those lures and also for lipless cranks. Quote
CJV Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 I would go braid man especially for those techniques .... Don't wanna see anyone get heart broke. Sunline fx2 would do the trick! Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted February 16, 2014 Global Moderator Posted February 16, 2014 I use either Mustad Ultra line or Pline C21 14-17 pound for all those except the swim jig which I normally fish on my jig rod with 20lb fluoro. Not a fan of braid for moving baits like that because I feel them much faster and react too soon sometimes and pull the bait away from the fish. 1 Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted February 16, 2014 Super User Posted February 16, 2014 Those are all single hook baits. For me I don't want any stretch. I'd skip the mono and go straight braid or braid and a leader if need be. Quote
