I fish local reservoirs that require using a row boat and no motor. I currently have a Lowrance X96 but am looking to upgrade to a newer Lowrance, possibly an HDS model. I'd like to know if anyone has done this? Are they more complex to make it work? What would I need to get and do?

Thanks,

I used to do do fly-in trips to Canada and took depth finders with us that we turned into portables. We mounted the transducer on a piece of 1x2 board that we secured to the transom with a C-clamp. I bought a cheap tackle box that was large enough to hold a small 12v rechargeable battery, the depthfinder and transducer. The top of the tackle box was flat and I drilled a few holes to mount the bracket for the unit. I used screws with wing nuts so I could easily remove the bracket and put everything inside the box for travel. I only spent a few dollars and was able to use a depthfinder I liked and already knew how to use.

Take a look at the YakAttack Cell Block. It is a self contained assembly that houses the battery and provides a mounting block for the unit.
