I am looking at picking up a new spinning reel, was looking for all of your opinion. The two I have been eyeing are : Shimano symetre fl & pfluger supreme mg.

If you had the choice what one is the better of the two?

Cheers.

I own that model Pflueger and my buddy has the symetre. We both like the Pflueger more, casts farther and seems smoother.

Both are fantastic though IMO

Id go Symetre for the faster retrieve speed. I wish those Pfluegars were faster.

SirSnookalot fishes every day.  He has stated on more than one ocassion that his Pfluegers have never needed to be repaired.  Something he can't say about his Shimano reels.

I own a Supreme XT, and have to agree I wish it had a faster ratio.  Can't say anything bad about it otherwise.

I'm going with the Symetre.

I've got spare spools for my Stradics, only used them one time and that's because I put a different braid on one so as not to get rid of the braid on the other one.

Not sure the extra spool (at least for me and my uses) is all it's cut up to be. Others may employ differing techniques where a spare spool with a different line is a necessity.

My 2 cents.

i have the pflueger supreme mg, i love it. light weight and smooth...

if youre worried about a tiny bit difference in retrieve speed, just reel faster when the situation calls for it. simple as that.

True.  If you are using only one reel, then it is all automatic.  My problem was switching from a couple other reels to this one had me wondering where my lure was.  I knew my cast wasn't THAT long.  :teeth:

I like it well enough that I bought a Fuego rod for it.  I'm sure I can reel a bit faster when necessary.  :teeth3:

I don't think 5 inches per turn is insignificant, its a 17% increase. Its a bigger difference than the difference between most 6.X:1 to 7.X:1 baitcasters. I had a President as a drop shot reel and the speed bugged me, liked the Symetre much better(although the President is slower than the supreme). If that is something that is important to the OP, then that will affect his choice. I think it is easier to reel slower with a fast reel than reel faster with a slow reel.

That's quite true about the repair aspect, a bonus IMO is having Pure Fishing standing behind the product.  On the retrieve speed issue, the symetre 1000 and 2500 offer 29 & 35 IPT, the 30 and 35 supremes are 30 & 32.7 IPT.  I don't think 2.3" IPT is much, especially if you work lures.  The supremes have bit more line capacity, not that important in bass fishing.  Both reels will perform just fine, I'd be picking the one that feels best on the rod.

I was comparing the 2500 to the 30 size as I feel those are more similar sized(volume) reels. I think my 35 sized President is a bit bulky for bass fishing, but the lighter weight of the Supreme probably offsets that a bit.

I guess we're kind of pulling off topic though, so I'll just say between those two I'd pick the Symetre.

I feel I get fewer line twist with the Shirmano spinning reels but I also really like my supreme 30.  I just think the other spinning reels control line twist more.

I prefer the Symetre. I've had Pflueger Supremes and Patriarchs, but I switched back to Shimano. I like the features and light weight of the Pfluegers, but they weren't nearly as solid-feeling, or refined, as the Shimanos. I guess it's like buying a Mercedes vs. a Kia. You can get an entry-level Mercedes with little options or a Kia packed to the gills; just up to you I guess.

I have a 35 supreme on a 7' 8/17 med rod, 30 on a 6'6 ml, I like the feel of both very much, these are main 2 bass rods.  My smallest shimano are 2 4000 stradic fi, to their credit I've never had a wind knot in many years of use.
