WiregrassRiverRat Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 I am slowly expanding my hooks and weights to cover wacky and swimbait options as well as shakyheads and just weights in general it can be difficult to manage. so I saw justin lucas uses one of the new bass mafia cases and keeps his owners in their bags so he can know what he has and know whats new..this didnt cover weights.. I like what he did though as it would help to stay organized... but I dont really want that 30 dollar case.. any solutions you guys use that is able to travel ... I currently use a large water resistant duffel and have room for about the size of 3 3700 boxes left that I can put hooks and weights in.. what you guys think? Quote
FishinCop646 Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 Why should it matter whether or not you are a boater?!? Any one who is organized should be using some sort of box. I have 3 3600s filled. When I was a rider I had 2 3500s (1 hooks & 1 weights) that fit in a smaller pocket of my bag. Quote

I think it matters when you consider this will not be something sitting in the compartment of a boat.. it will go with me into others boats.. that helps with the consideration of suggestions.. on the amount of space I will have available. 1 Quote
curtis9 Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 I use the plano FTO terminal tackle box. It's $13, and I find it to be a perfect box for hooks and weights. http://www.gandermountain.com/modperl/product/details.cgi?i=410217 Quote
gripnrip Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 The FTO will work great. I have the old Falcon FTO. You can find the Falcon hook and sinker FTO on ebay. On another note. The bait coffin by Bass Mafia is a great box and it is well worth the 30 bucks. It is heavy duty and will keep moisture out. It is a bit heavier than regular boxes. Quote
Super User Darren. Posted February 14, 2014 Super User Posted February 14, 2014 I use the plano FTO terminal tackle box. I always laugh at the pix. Once I pick it up and put it in a bag, the perfect organization is gone. Forever. I know the pic is for information and sales. Just saying. Personally, I'm using this right now: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Plano-Medium-Double-Sided-Organizer/16351085 Haven't concluded it's the best for what I do yet, but it was cheap enough to give a try. A tad on the small size, but I put my jika rigs, wacky hooks, TX/Mojo hooks in it with ease. Plenty of weights for various techniques. Think I'd like the exact same thing only maybe 1 or 2 compartments longer. The width is great for sticking it in small places for travel, but I think I could use a couple more slots for extra weights, etc. Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted February 14, 2014 Super User Posted February 14, 2014 I use the thin 3700 boxes. I have 2 that are filled pretty much identically. One stays on the boat and the other in my backpack for bank fishing. I also use painters tape and label each compartment so I know what size hook or weight I'm grabbing. 1 Quote
BradGuenette Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 +1 on the Falcon FTO box everything is already labeled, hook sizes/different weights ect. Double latches on 3 sides of the tray to be sure nothing gets loose.Theres no doubt falcon was a much better built product.Plano bought them out, changed the boxes same layout but cheaper quality. 1 Quote
FishinCop646 Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 Hence the suggestion of smaller boxes. Quote

bassin is addicting Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 well.... i have a different take... . since i am limited to what i can take...i prefer to use all my plano's for baits....crankbaits, lipless, jerkbaits, etc.....depending on what body of water i am fishing....not hooks or weights. to me, that seems like a waste of a plano (and space). just how many hooks and/or weights do you need for any one outing? i keep all my hooks in their original package and put the unweighted and weighted in separate quart size Ziplock freezer bags in a side compartment of my tackle bag. they fit just fine. as for weights. i don't see the need to take more than 4-6 each of the different weights i may use. so, i take a few out of their orignal package to lessen the space they take. and mark each baggie for storage and then put the orignal in my tackle bag with 4-6 weights of each. i have never needed more than that of any given weight. the weights will also fit in the same side pocket of my tackle bag as the hooks. i am also able to fit multiple sizes of shakey heads in that same side pocket. does that make any sense? not sure i am able to explain in words..how i do it. i don't see the need to take up a plano with just hooks and weights... IMO i use an Okeechobee Fats bag that holds 4 3700 plano's. it has 2 good sized pockets on the side as well as some storage space in the front and back. not sure of the exact model. Quote
Super User WIGuide Posted February 14, 2014 Super User Posted February 14, 2014 The FTO is a good option if you are don't carry a big assortment of hooks. It'll keep all your basics handy and labeled pretty well and gives you a little space for additional things you might carry, however it sounds like you want to keep everything handy. In that case I'd opt for a Plano 3701. It's the same footprint as the 3700 boxes but shorter height ways. Two of them together will take up slightly more room than one regular 3700 and it will hold even more than what you need. Personally I have two of them, one for my hooks and one for my weights. I couldn't be more pleased with them. Also to keep them organized, I take a permanent marker and write on the inside of the individual compartment what size the hooks are. It stays there as long as I need it and if for some reason I need to change it, a few stiff swipes of the thumb and maybe a little spit will be all you need. I just switched to this system last year and it really has helped me to save time on the water. Quote
