Jason_Vorhees Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 Spent the 1st year on a pelican. Blah blah blah... it was fine.. no leaking. No problems. Good for the money. now im ready to purchase a new fancier kayak. Im leaning towards the wilderness ride. Everyone else have a good suggestions and a second yak? Thanks. Quote
Super User Felix77 Posted February 14, 2014 Super User Posted February 14, 2014 I spent a good amount of winter researching this and finally committed to the new Ride 115x. Just the right size and it provides me plenty of options down the road. 1 Quote
GOOCHY Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 I'm going with the Jackson Big Rig this Spring. Might as well go all-in. Quote
BrianSnat Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 I'm going with the Jackson Big Rig this Spring. Might as well go all-in. I much prefer fishing from a canoe, but if I ever went for a kayak, this looks like a really nice one. Quote

I, too, started out on a Pelican. One year later, maybe it wasn't even a full year, I upgraded to a Native Ultimate 12. Been extremely happy with it since. Native, Wilderness Systems both make some splendid yaks. I'd even consider looking at the Native Slayer if you're looking at the Ride. But that's me. Do you have a budget that stops around the price of the Ride? I ask only because there are Hobie Pro Anglers out there I'd love to have one myself, but they're rather far out of my range. Perhaps after my 4 boys have gone off to college... Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted February 14, 2014 Super User Posted February 14, 2014 My next boat will be a coosa for the rivers (replacing the one i sold last year to a buddy) and a Native mariner most likely after i sell my Commander 120. We will see though how the plans work out since there is always something to take the money away from the kayak fund lol Quote
Jason_Vorhees Posted February 14, 2014 Author Posted February 14, 2014 No I have no budget. I like big pond/small lake fishing. Seldom do I get on rivers.id like to more though. Quote
Tugmaster Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 In all honesty try and test paddle as many boats as possible. When I was looking for a boat I thought I had a good idea what I wanted. I test paddled a bunch and ended up with something that was not originally at the top of my list. There are a lot of options out there from sit on top to hybrids. Todd Quote

Hanover_Yakker Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 Seat time seat time seat time! Opinions are nice for input and ideas but only your body can give you true feedback on overall comfort for your body type. Focus on the type of fishing you will be doing 70-80% of the time and the options will narrow considerably. Find a local kayak store to test fit a few with a PFD in the store then find a demo day or kayak outfitter and test out as many as possible. Quote
MikeinFresno Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 there are many things to consider. First would stability or speed be more important? Stability equals slower, speed is more tippy. There are some that split the difference. If going ONLY in the ocean then longer is better. Rivers or small ponds shorter is better. I have an Ocean Kayak T13 model which is a split between stability and speed. The higher quality yaks are also thicker which means heavier. So consider how to load it and if you have any physical problems that keep you from lifting it. Quote
